On Monday, Matt Snyder wondered if the Redskins' interest in quarterback Mark Sanchez was just shrewd maneuvering, an attempt to hide their true intentions as they plot their weekend draft strategy. Dan Snyder (no relation to Matt, at least to hear Matt tell it) and Vinny Cerrato have a spotty record when it comes to personnel decisions, although most mistakes have come via big-money free-agent signings. (Recent, obvious examples: Brandon Lloyd, Adam Archuleta.) In recent years, the 'Skins have been low-key on draft weekend. Depending on who you believe, that may or may not change this time around.
Via ESPN's Sal Paolantonio:
The Redskins have talked about a number of scenarios, especially this one: trading from 13th to fourth and selecting Sanchez, then dealing Campbell to another team, perhaps the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Jets -- to recoup lost picks. If that sounds familiar, we were talking about it last week, too. And these rumors surfaced nearly a month after the 'Skins lost out on Jay Cutler.
Again, this could be typical pre-draft smokescreening. And as FanHouse commenter Adam points out, the Redskins might want to trade down, accumulate picks, and use the draft to restock the roster -- something they've been successful doing, even if it's often obscured by their sometimes misguided and often overreaching free-agent strategy.
Even if the Sanchez rumors are just that, it seems clear that the Redskins don't consider Jason Campbell the team's long-term quarterback. Whether that means they'll do something about it this weekend, or this summer, or just wait till next offseason is still to be decided. But for the sake of conversation, I'll again make this point: Campbell might not be a "franchise QB" (however you might define that), just that maybe the quarterback position isn't the biggest obstacle between the Redskins and a championship.
And maybe Snyder and Cerrato agree. They're just doing a really good job of disguising those feelings. I want to believe that but, well, I'm still skeptical.

As a true redskins fan, why on earth do Synder and Cerrato want to ruin our franchise?! What will the point be, of drafting Sanchez? I mean, hes good and i like this kid as a QB. But i dont think that QB is a pressing need right now in this draft. Jason Campbell needs a break to get his groove in his ONE system for alteast more than a year, which is this year. Also, campbell isn't our ONLY "problem".
1. Our O-line can't guard--BIG NEED
2. Need Pass Rushers
3. And then we have other minor needs like LB, WR, etc.
Also, even if we did draft Sanchez, do you honestly want a kid who is a junior to come and lead your team? It would take him a solid 1-2 years to get settled.
My suggestion to the Mr. Synder and the front office of my SKINS would be to stay at 13 or move up to get some player like Orakpo or someone along that line. 2. Put some trust into JC, if he doesn't do well this season then get a QB next year which will have plenty of good and SOLID QBs such as Sam Bradford and etc.
Enough Said
HAIL!!!
