It's been almost a week since the Cardinals publicly stated that they would listen to offers for their sometimes-estranged, sometimes-content pro bowl receiver Anquan Boldin. I guess it's nice to know that they'll listen, but, as things currently stand, they haven't had anything to listen to. Like many cold calling sales ventures, the phone-time has increased, but the productivity has not. According to The Arizona Republic, general manager Rod Graves has had plenty of phone calls about Boldin, but nothing concrete in the way of trade offers. No one even tried the old, "hey, we'll give you a fifth rounder for him." Nothing.
"I don't know if that's any indication of the way the rest of the league sees Anquan," Graves said of the lack of offers. "I just think that there is time between now and draft day. Many teams have been finishing up the draft boards."This is a rather -- understatement coming -- important issue for the Cardinals to sort out before draft day. If they are going to deal Boldin, it is imperative they do so before the draft, so they can adjust their needs accordingly. If they don't get a deal done before the draft, they better be absolutely certain he'll be happy enough to play for them in 2009.
The latter scenario, obviously, gives them their best bet at returning to the playoffs, but if this situation is botched the Cardinals run the risk of having Larry Fitzgerald facing double, and possibly even triple, teams on the outside all season.

Cards are kind of stuck if they can't drop Boldin. I read today they only have $1.29m left in cap space this year, which probably isn't enough to sign Boldin, much less draft picks and other loose ends they'll have. Other players will have to restructure, be cut, or Boldin will have to stay where he's at with the current contract.

Since they are not getting any bites yet, how about a trade with the Chicago Bears? They need a quality receiver and the Cardinals need a quality running back. How about Matt Forte, who is an excellent young running back, and a third round draft for Bolden?

Oops. Just remembered that the third round pick of the Bears this year is a comp pick so it can't be traded. So maybe Forte and the fourth round pick?

Boldin for Peppers. Get that A-Hole out of Carolina. He has F***ed Carolina. Carolina has lost 9 players this year most due to the salary cap issues.

LOL, well i too am upset with the Julius situation. I am more upset that we had to release two quality Offensive line back ups because of Julius. I think that offensive line truly is the most important position in football; a qb and ESPECIALLY a running back need a quality line to make the right decisions.
as far as boldin, i don't think the cards really need to deal him by draft day because they are usually going to go w/ 2 or 3 WR sets anyway and even though Boldin is good, I think that w/ Kurt Warner under center, they will be fine with Fitz, Breaston, Urban in 3 WR sets.

Slim, the Bears could draft a running back in the second or third rounds or use Kevin Jones and Adrian (The Other) Peterson. It is a big drop-off from Forte, but Boldin is a major addition to the thin receiving corps that the Bears currently have.

I don't understand what Da Bears fans are thinking. They have a guy who could be the best running back in Chicago since Walter Payton and they have him at a bargin price so what do the so called smart fans want to do. (Lets trade him for a guy we are going to have to pay top money for and throw in a solid draft pick too. The bottom line is Forte and Q are have great upside but nobody knows the future. Remember a bird in hand be happy to have a good qb rb combo and average wr and a great TE.

That was one person. Please don't lump all fans together with one internet commenter. I'm a Bears fan and I think trading Forte would be absurd.

My bad! I was just so amazed at what was said by gmlet. I do think Q would be a great addition but the price is so steep. I don't even know if there is cap room to sign him if the right deal was made. The whole reason the Cards are looking to trade him is money. I don't know many teams who can fit him under the cap if he gets the money he wants.(8-10 mil a year) is what he is looking for. I enjoy your blogs Matt and agree with almost all of them. Keep up the great work. By the way I am an Eagle fan who would love for them to get Q if the trade is right and they do have cap space, I just don't want to trade away a great player at a good value for him. If you are a true NFL fan you will see the teams that keep getting deep in the playoffs know how to work the salary cap.

soulcitysigma1914 I thought I told ya...sounds like a Master P song. But really I agree with you 199% Peppers caused the Panters to lose quality backups and starters Mark Jones whom I loved and Nick Goings who was an all around team player. I am worried about the Catz this year they are thin at all positions.
Thx for replying
