Report: Braylon Edwards to the Giants

According to a published report, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards will be a member of the New York Giants before the NFL Draft -- which begins April 25.

Ever since the Giants released troubled wideout Plaxico Burress, rumors have been rampant about Edwards being moved to New York, but Yahoo's Jason Cole provides the first actual report which goes further than speculation.

For now, there is reportedly a gap between the Browns' asking price and what the Giants are willing to offer, but each side expects to compromise enough to reach a trade before draft day.

Involved in the discussion are a couple of draft picks and either Steve Smith or Domenik Hixon heading to Cleveland for Edwards.

Edwards had a career year in 2007 with 80 catches for 1,289 yards and a whopping 16 touchdowns. He regressed significantly in 2008, however, hauling in only 3 touchdowns to go with his 55 catches and 873 yards. Much of the regression can be attributed to a penchant for dropping passes and sub-par quarterbacking. With Eli Manning, some of the quarterbacking issues would disappear, but that doesn't account for Edwards' consistent cases of drop-itis.

For the Browns, it's pretty evident they are starting over, after already having traded Kellen Winslow. They'll be enduring a long 2009 season. Again. But at least they are looking to improve with multiple draft picks and have their eyes on the future.
