According to a published report, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards will be a member of the New York Giants before the NFL Draft -- which begins April 25.
Ever since the Giants released troubled wideout Plaxico Burress, rumors have been rampant about Edwards being moved to New York, but Yahoo's Jason Cole provides the first actual report which goes further than speculation.
For now, there is reportedly a gap between the Browns' asking price and what the Giants are willing to offer, but each side expects to compromise enough to reach a trade before draft day.
Involved in the discussion are a couple of draft picks and either Steve Smith or Domenik Hixon heading to Cleveland for Edwards.
Edwards had a career year in 2007 with 80 catches for 1,289 yards and a whopping 16 touchdowns. He regressed significantly in 2008, however, hauling in only 3 touchdowns to go with his 55 catches and 873 yards. Much of the regression can be attributed to a penchant for dropping passes and sub-par quarterbacking. With Eli Manning, some of the quarterbacking issues would disappear, but that doesn't account for Edwards' consistent cases of drop-itis.
For the Browns, it's pretty evident they are starting over, after already having traded Kellen Winslow. They'll be enduring a long 2009 season. Again. But at least they are looking to improve with multiple draft picks and have their eyes on the future.

I don't like this at all. I hope this doesn't happen. Giants are clearly in need of a top receiver right now with Plax being cut and Toomer gone, but I don't think Edwards is the answer. The guy has dropitis and Eli doesn't exactly throw the best spirals lol. If this trade does go down, I really hope Steve Smith is not part of the package. He's a great slot receiver and that would be a big loss. I would rather pick up a veteran like Holt or Marvin starvin harrison for a year or two. Then draft a receiver like Nicks, Britt, or Heyward-Bey and develop them.

Braylon Edwards has immence talent, but no heart. He won't cross the middle of the field for fear of getting nailed by a safety and all those dropped passes. Is it alligator arms or looking to see who will hit him instead of looking the ball all the way in?
Either way Browns collect you draft picks and choose wisely. Thoughen up and become a team no one wants to face.
Giants, Edwards is no Plex, Which isn't completely a bad thing. Maybe tougher coaching will man him up.

As a Skins fan I will be glad to see him in NY taking the spot of someone who might otherwise be able to catch the ball. Sorry NY, not a good deal.

45 year brown fan who really cares since 1999 we have had i think 3 coaches two from the belicheck family. and now there shipping all their talent out. I think when Modell ran for the money in the middle of the night he took the teams winning legacy with him ,i still very much dislike that whole family.(hate is a strong word so i wont use it )cleveland has become the new saints.

Eastside I know it sucks to see them leave but there is a reason behind it. Braylon is gone next year ...he never wanted to be in Cleveland to begin with. Why not trade him now and get something instead of him walking and getting nothing.

Excellent pick, Coughlin doesn't mess around, he'll whup that kid into playing great ball! Braylon knows what an opportunity this is, no doubt. He knows he'll be playing on a competitive Championship team and will bring his "A" game. This guy has the potential to be a dominant reciever and he just brought us back into the runnings. The defense should be best in nfl, OL as always is solid, running game is brutal in a good way, and now the weapons on offense to include Braylon, are going to be a lot to handle for anyone.

BAD MOVE! Keep Hixon, Smith and draft BRITT(Rutgers) and then go get Brian Leonard(FB,TE) from the Rams! The recievers they HAVE are ALL good, It's getting ELI to take his medication that's the problem!
DRAFT 3 (HUNGRY, UN-PEAKED)LINEBACKERS in the later rounds.

Don't do it. Trade up for a good receiver in the draft (there are plenty).
An inaccurate quarterback and a receiver with the dropsies.
Not a good combo. The Giants are solid everywhere else, and just need a receiver they can count on. I'm afraid Edwards isn't it.
