It isn't any surprise that since Brett Favre announced he'd be done with football (umm, the fourth time), the quarterback situation with the Packers would be tumultuous.Nobody thought it would get to this. Even with Aaron Rodgers doing whatever he can in Green Bay to win people over, rumors are flying around that the Packers have worked out Duke basketball player Greg Paulus. Yes, that was "Duke basketball player" you just read.
According to PFT ...
Paulus is a former high school Gatorade Football Player of the Year selection who was offered football scholarships to Notre Dame and the University of Miami, but chose to play basketball at Duke.Unless Jerry Jones made it clear that he was interested in Roger Clemens backing up Tony Romo this year, Paulus could be the most obscure and random person to contact about a position in the NFL. He was a great football player in high school, but that was four years ago, and barring any A++++ intramural team championship Paulus lead his team to, the Packers have gone a little insane.
Paulus was a three-year starter for the Blue Devils at point guard who was once named second-team All-ACC. He was a third-team Academic All-American selection.
Right now Green Bay has Matt Flynn, who actually played football at LSU, and Brian Brohm, who was a pigskin member at Louisville, behind Rodgers.
If Paulus works out, I guess that will be one professional sport that Mike Krzyzewski produces good talent to. Zing!

His brother is a quarterback at North Carolina, USC recruited him hard before he ended up choosing Carolina.
USC ended up taking Aaron Corp instead that year once Paulus and Jimmy Clausen passed, probably a great turn of events for USC all things considered.

Two words: Antonio Gates.
"Before his rookie season of 2003, Gates had not played organized football since his senior year at Central High School in Detroit. While there, Gates led Detroit Central High School to a Class A state championship in basketball as a senior, [1] [2]and was a first-team all-state selection in football and basketball."
You might have heard of him. He's sorta a pro bowl level player.

Just remember that Antonio Gates didn't played college football and he is the best TE in the NFL.

Gates = TE
This is about QBs. Catching, route-running, and blocking are all complex skill sets, but pale in comparison to NFL a the professional level...you can't go from a high school offense to the NFL, that's absolute CRAZY talk for a QB. It'd take a year for the kid to get anything out of film study and mechanics work

Well technically Cassel did.
Matt Leinart was injured early against Arizona State in 2003, and Cassel took reps in a contested game going 4 for 10 for 42 yards (39 on one play).
He also got live reps as a WR, H-back and on special teams so his experience was at least a little more than the legend of nothing at all.

Cassel was apart of a very complex offense at USC where he had to master a playbook, attend film sessions, and go through all the works to prepare to start a game. COMPLETELY different than not even experiencing a college-level offense like Paulus
