Marvin Harrison has been out of work for six weeks now, and there's no reason to think that'll change anytime soon. Teams have shown no interest in the 36-year-old, 13-year veteran and Hall of Fame lock. He barely cracked the top-10 in FanHouse's list of top available free agents, which is remarkable when you see such luminaries as Byron Leftwich, Cato June and Dre Bly ahead of him.
Former general manager and teevee talking head Charley Casserly seems unfazed by Harrison's unemployment.
"I'm not surprised," said Casserly ... "When I watch him as a player and look at the package, he's not going to get any better at this point in his career. ...Fair points, for sure, but when the Patriots rush to ink Joey Galloway, 37 years young, whose career numbers don't come close to Harrison's -- and who also suffered through an injury-plagued 2008 season -- well, it might be time to think about life after football.
He's been injury-prone the last two years. He's missed time. That has to be a consideration when you're going to sign a guy."
Of course, if Harrison is willing to play for the veteran minimum and doesn't mind sitting by the phone for the summer (and maybe even into the early part of the regular season) he'll likely get another chance.
Between injuries and roster cuts, teams will be looking for savvy, veterans who can fill niche roles. Shaun Alexander got work that way. (Things didn't end well, however; the Redskins cut him after four games.) There's also Jerry Rice, who, after a fantastic 16-year run with the 49ers, played four more seaosns with the the Raiders, before that last forgettable go-round with the Seahawks.
Unfortunately, guys don't always know when to retire and we're subjected to such awkwardness. For all our sake's, here's to hoping it doesn't come to that for Marvin.

Marvin could always fill a void, but at his age it isn't worth it for any team nowadays. More and more teams are finding out it just isn't worth it to have these older Vets, not even for minimum. They come in and a possible prospect loses his job and is never heard of again. They get hurt and take up a roster spot and demand their money in garuanteed salary.

I hope he never plays again. I am sick of these greedy a-holes begging for more money WAY past there prime. Hopefully he'll become an example to be grateful you even have a job in this economy, much less one where you are making millions.

I'm still holding out hope that Marvin will re-sign with us for the contract the Colts were willing to give him!!! My concern right now....How on EARTH can you let Dominick go AGAIN!!! Get rid of Addai..he's a bust! Other concern...you let go of one of the best punters in the league!! What's going on around here

Hoping that he'll come back to Indy and lead us with Manning and Wayne to another superbowl.
Already missing 'starving' Marvin! God bless you Marv.
