Twitter has just become all the rage with the sports world. We've had basketball players using it at halftime, and we've had college football coaches using it as a PR tool. Now, we have another athlete using Twitter and making headlines for it. This time, it's Packers linebacker Nick Barnett, who apparently doesn't approve of his team's offseason maneuvering, or lack thereof.
On his Twitter page Tuesday, Barnett posted "Ok question does anyone else think we need more d line man???". A few minutes later, Barnett elaborated a bit.
I think we need one more solid d-line man I think we have some pretty good options for olb but knowing (GM) ted (Thompson) I think he wants to sure it upHe also posted that he thinks the Packers are going to have "one he'll of a team".
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel talked to Barnett at Wednesday night's Milwaukee Bucks game. Barnett confirmed that this is really his Twitter account, and he offered a little more insight into what he's thinking.
"We've lost some guys; it's a new scheme ... We have Jenkins on the outside, Pickett on the inside; we'll have Jolly with whatever happens with his situation. But the years that we've been very good on defense, we've had good depth on the defensive line with some good quality. We have some young guys coming up, but it's always good to have that very good depth at d-line."For what it's worth, Barnett told the paper that he doesn't foresee getting in trouble over his comments.
I don't have a Twitter page, but I don't have any issues with the concept. I also don't mind one bit that athletes use it as a form of communication with the fans.
As for Barnett's thoughts, there is a bit of truth there. The Packers aren't particularly deep along the defensive line right now, and it really doesn't matter what the defensive scheme is. They have to get better there if the defense as a whole is going to improve.

The Pack need help all over on the defense they need to sure up that secondary and then worry about the d-line. That secondary was supposed to be so great last year and if i remember correctly i remember them getting burned many times. Woodson and Harris are getting old and need someone to replace them in the future.

Me thinks that the two 1st round picks will certainly enhance the Packers defense. The rest of the picks have potential but there are players already in place - especially on the defensive line. They were smart to pick two OT's with Clifton fading and the surgery with Tauscher. Good to see they picked up a fullback.
