As Michael Vick is released from prison and looks to pick up the pieces of his life, he's got a lot of financial trouble to deal with. If things go as Vick plans, however, he won't be in that pickle for long. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Vick has filed papers with a bankruptcy court where he claims he'll be raking in upwards of $10 million a season in the NFL. Now, assuming Roger Goodell reinstates Vick, and a team is willing to roll the dice on a man who has an awful public image and hasn't played football for three years, how in God's name does he think he's getting $10 million a year?
Do you know who didn't make $10 million in 2008? Tom Brady. Drew Brees. Donovan McNabb. Kurt Warner. Eli Manning. Philip Rivers.
Yeah, the list goes on and on. The only quarterbacks who made eight figures in 2008 base salary were Peyton Manning and Brett Favre. Vick hasn't even had a quarterback rating north of 80 since 2002. Needless to say, Vick ain't making that much a season for the rest of his career.
The problem in this whole mess is Vick's planning.
The embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback is hoping to earn as much as $10 million a year or more, according to court filings in his bankruptcy case. Under the plan he submitted to the court, Vick would keep the first $750,000 of his annual income over the next five years. After that, a percentage would go to his creditors based on a sliding scale.Look, I know he got used to an upscale way of life his first time through the league, but things are different now. He's a convicted felon. He's older. He owes way too much money to different creditors. And he's planning on keeping $750,000 for himself every year? C'mon.
He's gonna have to swallow a bit more of his pride and "settle" for only about $200,000 a year. This would enable him to pay off his debts in a realistic and legal fashion, all the while maintaining an income most Americans will never reach. Can't someone talk some sense into him after all he's already been through? Making six figures is a very nice living.
Instead, he's thinking he gets eight figures? He's either delusional or lying to the courts. That's simply not happening. Here I was hoping prison straightened him out.

It seems prison has turned Michael Vick insane. Who would take an aging, inaccurate QB whose legs will undoubtedly lose some of their quickness (look at RB production at Vick's age) for ten million dollars a year when his next stop should be the asylum?
He won't even be reinstated this year, I bet.

Sad thing is, he probably will. I can see a team (Dallas Cowboys) picking him up as a security blanket. It may be 3 years since he has played, but look at it this way, if he would've never got caught he'd probably be one of the top QB's in the league. Plus, Dallas is know to give people "second chances". You never know.

Vick's mind is so warped. He's always been an arrogant SOB and continues to have that same high and mighty attitude. Jail did not even humble this freak. I think he'll be suspended because Goodell has so many (legit) reasons to do so. And people are not going to just stand by while Vick makes his big life plans. We will flood Goodell and every NFL team who may even be considering hiring this monster with protests to show how disgusted and horrified we are with Vick. He should never, ever play football again. We are anxious and ready to sink our teeth into Vick and get him thrown out of the NFL and for all! Pitbulls can hang on for a long time and do alot of damage -- so can we.

Seems to me that PETA freaks like you care more about animals than your fellow man. Are you seriously saying that after Vick has completely served his jailtime and halfway house time, he isn't allowed to have a life or job because he was involved with dogfighting in the past? Such a notion sounds utterly ridiculous to me, and it saddens me to think that it doesn't sound ridiculous to others.

Sam,
Im not for Vick, but you are telling me he's not allowed ot make life plans now? He has served his time and paid his debt. Why does it matter to you what he does with his life? it's bitter people like you that cant ever let go who make this country as shitty as it is. You act all high and mighty like you're perfect here on the internet but you are just a simple minded person. Peta and these other organizations need to get in line and actually maybe to to make help vick be a better person and some knowledge so that way he nor his kids or family will ever do anything like that again. If people were taught and raised right, there wouldnt be these problems. Education is the key, not exclusion. some of you make me sick

I've never had a thing to do with PETA in my life. But when my kid cried over Vick when the gory details of his sick operation came out, I felt as a father I had to do my part to keep this thug out of the NFL and away from our TV screens. The guy even threw family pets into the ring and laughed - that only came out in a report after he was locked up. That turns my stomach, sorry. He is no role model, he needs to move on and get out of our sights. I will do what I can to help that happen. This was not just a "mistake" or "poor judgement", he's got serious problems.

Goodell needs to make an example of Vick and close the book on this mans career. Vick was considered a "super star" and if Goodell could put a stop to this man for what he did, then maybe the younger guys would see that as a pretty obvious warning.
Maybe Vick could go play in the UFL.

Let me be clear; there is no chance that Vick will make $10mil per year in the NFL.
Now, why do people think that he will not be reinstated? He did the crime, served his time, and now wants to continue his career. To hear people talk about him, it seems like he killed someone. He plead guilty to DOGFIGHTING. Yes, it is a horrible thing to do, but it does not rate up high enough to warrant a life-time ban from the NFL. Bring that up when he rapes/robs/murders someone. Until then, let him live his life and make a living.

He won't make $10 million a year because he's not good enough to be the second highest paid QB. Leave all the off-field stuff aside and seriously tell me he's worth that much money as a quarterback who hasn't played in three years.
That's why I made that statement.

I, by no means, take what Vick has done lightly. In fact, I was quite sickened to tell the truth. But, I would hope that this man gets another chance to carry on with his life and career. For all of you that are ripping into this guy just think if you had to pay for all your mistakes harshly. I know, the response to that would be "well, I didn't kill any dogs." And yes that would be true, but none of us are perfect and Vick has paid his debt to society and lost everything.

First off I didn't know bloggers doubled as financial [anal]ysts.Man you people who hate Vick should form pow-wow groups and condense your hateration to a small room.
Secondly when did bloggers/financial analysts clear over a 6 figure salary a year? How would you know whats considered reasonable if you have never been in the position to make a similair decision?By your reasoning I guess women should receive less money for child support if the father happened to play in a professional sport.
Main point....Vick clearing 10Million a year isn't unlikely. His contract doesn't necessarily have to equal that amount but that isn't the only way to make money through the NFL.
His jersey for whatever team he goes to will shoot up to #1....even some vick haters will buy them to possibly burn them and give him more money.
He will get promotion deals again....I swore I just saw ray lewis in the sobe commercial and wasnt he tried for murder?(whether or not he was found guilty or not doesn't matter because of the lack of intelligence that usually flows rapid through any post involving Mike Vick suggests your debt to society is never paid.)

I don't hate Vick. He's simply not worth $10 million a year. He wasn't when he was in his prime and still in game shape, so I don't know why he would be now.
I do love how people can't grasp the concept that I'm making an objective judgment about Vick without injecting alleged hatred. He's paid his dues to society by serving time. He has the right to attempt to make a living. He does not have the right to immediately become one of the highest paid players in the NFL again. He has to earn that. I don't have to be a "financial analyst" to tell you that.
It's pretty clear which of us has serious bias, though, isn't it?

I think he is being optimistic and showing confidence as he wants a time to buy him. It is possible someone would pay him well - his style of play is very entertaining and effective and draws a crowd; so, if you ask for 10 you might get 8 - that's good bargaining. ACTUALLY - I think if he lost a step - he may be a better player - sometimes he moved so fast it hindered his coordination skills - and he is coordinated too - but will be more with less speed - although he probably won't lose a step until he's 32 or 33 - if he stay's in shape.

I think that Vick will be on a NFL team in 2010. Look at the lions, bucs, skins, vikings, and maybe the jets who all need a qb. Vick might not end up playing his first year back but would use the year to get back in shape and learn the teams playbook.
Being a redskins fan i would like Vick to sign a one one or two year deal with the skins. We all know anythings possible with Ole' Daniel Snyder.

He'd probably have a better chance with the Vikings or Bucs. Tampa doesn't really have a franchise QB right now, and if Brad Childress still thinks he's going to see good results from T-Jack, he's crazy. The Redskins are fine with Jason Campbell and the Jets will probably go after Jay Cutler.

Bite your tongue! Vick will NOT be coming to D.C. 1. We already have a QB that can't read the "D" fast enough. We don't need two. 2. Vick is a fantastic "athelete" but, only average at being a "field general"...with 3 years hiatus too?!? 10 Million? Never. DC? Never. He'll find a couple of endorsements but NOTHING to the tune of what he had in the past. His number? He'll be pushing it to GET a number. That other poster thinks he's coming back with a vengence. This is going to end up a sad story. He'll end up being a KR, PR, slot...then he'll finally get paid after they make the movie about his rise & fall...(which Dan Snyder will probably finance).

Vick did NOT "make a mistake". Are you people retarded? He allowed and encouraged his friends to systematically fight and abuse dogs FOR YEARS. Do any of realize how long he had to have had this happening for there to have been 66 dogs found? Sixty-six dogs are a LOT!
111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
That's 66 one's. The same number of dogs FOUND at that estate. That doesn't include any that were never found, or all the bodies of the probably hundreds of dogs this piece of trash and his "friends" SYSTEMATICALLY abused and neglected and killed.
I lost a pit bull in Northern Virginia in 2001. It was later found, after being used for "bait" by dogfighters. My dog, who i'd loved and had for 10 years, was mauled, starved, crippled and had to be euthanized. For all i know it might have been done by Vick's "friends". People who do this are pigs, and deserve all the misery they get.
Mike Vick KNEW this was happening. He let it go on for YEARS. It wasn't an "accident". It was NOT a "one-time" thing. It was non-stop bloody, murderous, torturous horrible abuse. If you've never seen the results of dogfighting you have no idea how disgusting it is. It's as bad as a combat zone. Trust that- i've seen both.
No- Vick should NOT be allowed to ever be anyone's role model ever again.
No way.

My feelings on Vick: I've been a Cowboys fan since three years old (43 years-hard core) and had great times, but if Vick is allowed to re-enter the NFL, I will send every football item I have to Jerry Jones and I'll be done with the only tradition my family ever enjoyed together. Serial killers are known to torture animals, perhaps Vick would be more comfortable on that team!!
