Phillip Daniels missed the entire 2008 season with a knee injury -- one he suffered on the first day of training camp. Hopefully he'll have a bit better fortune for 2009, because he's expecting to sign a league minimum one-year contract with the Redskins sometime in the next few days. Daniels, who has 59 career sacks, is 36 years old, but claims he's completely healthy and in great shape. If there's one glaring weakness on the 'Skins defense, it's pressure from the outside. A healthy Daniels would be a start, but he's never been a dynamic pass rusher (9 sacks in one season is his career high).
For his part, Daniels sounds really excited about the opportunity to be back on the field as a Redskin.
Daniels said he is excited to be back with the Redskins and long time coach/coordinator Greg Blache. He is also eager to have this decision finally behind him.If Daniels can give a healthy 16 games to the Skins, the feeling -- at this price -- will certainly be mutual. As things stand, his only competition at left defensive end is fellow veteran Renaldo Wynn. Between the two, the Redskins should expect serviceable play from the position. I guess when you spend nine figures to shore up the middle, serviceable will cut it on the outside.
"I'm happy about it," Daniels said. "I'll definitely be coming back."

I personally think that daniels should sign with the skins to serve as a one year starter and mentor for Rob Jackson and Chris Wilson, who i think are two young talented football players.

We have three young DEs, and hopefully at least one can make the transition to starter. Daniels and Wynn are good role models and mentors to have on a team, and while they may not be great pass rushers, both are great against the run.
With Daniels and Wynn signing, I doubt the Skins will draft a DE (at least one who will still play DE), so the only positions to look at are a tackle and a strong-side linebacker or a DE to convert to SSLB.

I agree. with the addition of Albert Haynesworth everyone on the Dline will be better in that he will help them to create plays due to the fact the other team will be worried about stopping him. A nice pass rushing linebacker like maualuga or cushing would be the best way to go. Jansen Samuels and Heyer will be good enough for now. OT can be addressed next year. Plus Heyer will be a good OT for us because he is still young and he did a fine job before he was injured.

I will tell you what would be awesome. Let Daniel Snyder open up his check book one more time and find a way to get Shaun Rogers from Cleveland...Now picture that, Haynesworth and Rogers at the DT's...who's running inside now, absolutely nobody...what Qb will be able to step up in the pocket with those 2 pocket crushers on the field at the same time...
