Terrell Owens recently signed with the Buffalo Bills. People questioned Buffalo's willingness to give the temperamental wideout an excessive amount of money, based on his previous, ahem, issues with other teams. Those questions might seem pretty on-point in the early going too, as word out of Buffalo is that Owens has already skipped the team's first workout, albeit one that was voluntary.
The Buffalo News brought word of Owens' absence, and much like the rest of the city, treated the news as "obvious but not insulting," a state of mind in the city, at least regarding their new superstar, that seems a little baffling.
When something is voluntary, it's not required, of course. But the Bills -- and the city of Buffalo -- are treating Owens, pictured here attending an NBA game just four days ago, with such "kid gloves" throughout this whole process. Witness coach Dick Jauron's really polite statement that "his hope" was that Owens would show up and Trent Edwards' polite post-workout statement that doesn't even attempt to be direct about his displeasure with Owens absence. In other words, it's almost impossible to picture this whole experiment not turning out badly.
And while I understand that Owens, as a superstar, probably warrants some special treatment, it's just scary to see this situation unfolding much like the relationship between a friend and a promiscuous girl who is easily out of his league. Those things never end well, and while I don't want to cast judgment on Owens before the season even starts, it's also hard not to be concerned about how his time is going to shake out in Buffalo.

Voluntary means voluntary.
Terrell Owens is in better physical condition than 90% of the league.
Are you that hard up for a story?
As if...lol

It was a VOLUNTARY work out which means he was not required to be there. If it was mandatory then you would had something to blog about instead of this ridiculous non issue that you're trying to blow up.

If the bills are lucky, he won't show up for anything this year!

Is anyone surprised? This guy is not a team player. He knows deep down inside the Bills stink and he doesn't care. He could have made a statement by showing up and meeting his new teammates but instead just proves once again he is not a team player.

What's the point? Get over it! TO has done plenty of volunteer work in the past and he certainly doesn't have to worry about being in shape!

T.O is again putting himself above that of the team. The cancer is starting to grow. Yes he is probably in shape, but this is a new team for him, and they deserve better. Is it too much trouble to get off on the right foot for this guy? You can bet there are already folks in the locker room disappointed, and shaking their colective heads. Probably a few who already want out of there. What a train wreck this is going to turn out to be. Patch

The Bills deserve this. Pay a guy 6.5 mil and he is a known team killer. If you are that stupid to make the move, you deserve the consequences. Good luck on making a diamond out of a lump of coal.

slick willie, you obviously have never been part of a team. Teams win because everyone is on the same page. T.O. is in a world of his own and is not a team player and is a team destroyer.

Talk about bias in the media, you guys really hate this player. Who cares if he doesn't show for voluntary conditioning, I surely don't....Can we just give the guy a few games into the regular season before we start bashing him?
