Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was driving drunk when he killed a pedestrian over the weekend, multiple media outlets are reporting. The Miami Herald and a Miami TV station both reported that Stallworth's blood alcohol level was determined to be over the legal limit of 0.08 when police tested him Saturday in Miami Beach. Stallworth was driving around 7 a.m. when he hit 59-year-old Mario Reyes, killing him instantly.
So far, the police have offered only this statement:
''We have not released anything regarding the blood work,'' said Jenny Velazquez, a Miami Beach police spokeswoman. ``We're not confirming anything.''Reyes, described as a construction worker and avid baseball fan, is survived by his wife and 15-year-old daughter. Stallworth has not spoken publicly since the incident but did release a statement describing himself as "grief stricken over the tragic accident."
In Florida, DUI manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Very sad indeed. But its also a good time to say always look both ways and actually into the drivers eyes before you cross. Dont assume the driver will stop because your in a crosswalk.

Its also a good time to mention how fast these athletes drive some of these million dollar cars. No one thinks about how hard it is to drive a Bentley or a Lambo. The front end of a bentley is bigger than most people's entire car. Tapping the gas pedal on a Lambo takes you 4-6,000 RPMs faster than average cars will ever go. Some of these cars do have more in common with a space ship than a toyota camry, and should be treated that way.

Indeed, now is the time for baseless speculation about facts we do not know.

...looking both ways wouldn't have done much good in this case as Stallworth allegedly drove around a car that had stopped at a red light & would've been obstructed by the car who's owner was actually obeying the rules of the road...
For years we've been hearing people clamoring for some kind of tightening of the belt when it comes to professional athletes, their ever-present sense of entitlement & their ever-growing reckless behavior...before it's too late & someone loses their life...
I'd look for a stern message to be sent w/ Donte's case.

Wow. Not only is his career over, his life is over too. If I were a Miami prosecutor, I'd take him to the fullest extent. What an idiot.

I don't understand these athletes, they have millions of dollars and still insist on drinking and driving when they can easily hire a limo or take a taxi. I have nowhere near the money they have and I always take taxis when I am out drinking.

I think that Mr Stallworth should support Mario Reyes daughter until she is out of school since her father no longer can.

They haven't even filed charges against this guy yet. If it was some regular person they would have been tried and locked up already.

I just can't see why a person who has the world in the palm of his hands will just throw it away to drink and drive. One person is dead and family is destroyed. Because a spoiled scumbag athlete decided to get drunk and the drive his vehicle and end up killing someone. I don't feel sorry for this idiot Stallworth, I hope he rots in jail and is left without one penny to his name if and when he ever gets out.

Book'm Danno! This guy was DRUNK at 7:00 AM. Pulled around a stopped car. "Sheet man", if this was one of us. we would be putting up a ton of cash just to see the sun over our heads. They haven't even drawn up paper on this idiot yet. Ninty days (80 suspended)and Community service is what he'll get. I don't know the whole story but I don't think we ever will.

How in hell does the Miami Herald and a TV station both report that Stalworth was drunk, before the cops even get the results back?Something here just doesn't flush.
