Matt Jones has had his share of trouble over the past year or so. He was busted for possession of cocaine and then not-so-promptly suspended for the rest of the season by the NFL. Things got worse when Jones violated his plea agreement by getting drunk and was jailed for seven days. Jones was eventually released from prison but, unfortunately for him, he was "released" again today, only this time by the Jags.
This is a move that makes sense from the Jags' standpoint -- their two major needs on the offensive end heading into free agency were wide receiver and offensive line. They addressed the latter with the signing of Tra Thomas and now seem likely to roll the dice once again on a first round wideout.
This hasn't panned out well in the past with the selections of Reggie Williams, and, of course, Jones. Jeremy Maclin and Michael Crabtree seem to be less "ridiculous gamble" and more "tremendous upside potential," though, and the likelihood that one will be available, coupled with Jones' trouble, are two very logical reasons why this release makes sense.

I actually hope the skins look at this guy. Sign him with low risk/high reward type of contract. 1 year deal to see if he can keep it together. He was coming on strong last year for the jags and the jags QB had a HORRIBLE season. Jones is a good WR who just needs to get himselve straight, or he will end up like Pac Man JONES.. haha whats up with the Jones's!!

Hah, I think it's funny that for almost every somewhat big-name that becomes available, there's a Redskins fan who wants to sign him. If it was up to us, the Redskins would have half the league on our team.
Seriously though, we don't need any more WRs, and we have enough big personality players to deal with. And enough guys with off the field issues.
I think he'll go to the Cowboys; they're always looking for a player with substance abuse issues.

Agreed adam, Our WR corp is already pretty strong. Now you may think I am crazy but look at it this way. When Santana is healthy, he blazes, Antwaan is nice slot addition. We got the veterans like Thrash. And if Malcom Kelly and Devin Thomas come up nicely, we could have a hell of an offense with an improved line and hopefully a upgraded QB (Campbell)
Hail to the Redskins

I agree with lazy. i don't think we need a WR at all. i think we should really give our top draft picks from last year a chance to show why we actually drafted them. Give em the opportunities and see how they progress. After all, that was the strategy for last year wasn't it? to draft and develop a big WR or 2. Hail Redskins!!

This guy is pretty damn good and never played wide receiver before entering the NFL. Most receivers take a few years to adjust, imagine if you had never played the position before. And the quarterback is a dink and dunk passer, they used Matt Jones as a possession receiver when he is good as a deep threat, that is like asking randy moss to use his long legs to run short routes where you have to cut very quickly, he would struggle. He was on pace for a 1,000 yards receiving last year before the 4 game suspension, the best receiver on the jags despite being misused. Its the qb that they need to replace. Any team that gets him will be getting a great player, he just had a few addiction problems, there are worse players in the NFL. He didnt hurt anybody like Leonard Little.

yeah its quite obvious to me that either ur not a jaguar fan or u never saw a game in which jones has played in. if u want a receiver that can make the impossible look easy but make the easy look impossible then jones is ur man. u dont draft a receiver in the 1st round who makes a simple 10yd out pattern look more difficult than it is. but then again, you dont draft a qb who has never caught a pass in his life as a 1st round pick either but now we're just splitting hairs.....
