The New England Patriots continued to re-tool their roster on Saturday by signing veteran wide receiver Joey Galloway to a one-year deal, as reported by Steve Duemig of WDAE (via PFT). Galloway, 37, was part of the offseason roster purge in Tampa Bay after catching only 13 passes in 2008. With Randy Moss and Wes Welker cemented as starters, Galloway will be, at best, the No. 3 option in the passing game for quarterback Tom Brady, likely competing with newcomer Greg Lewis for passes.
Galloway joins the Patriots' other offseason signings, including running back Fred Taylor and cornerbacks Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden. The additions of Springs, Taylor and Galloway would have made this an incredible offseason for the Patriots ... if it were the year 2000. As it stands, they're going to be nice additions to an already strong team that is looking to reclaim its spot atop the AFC East.
Galloway had recently visited the Steelers, where the coaching staff was reportedly convinced he still possessed his game-breaking speed.
Despite the fact he rarely saw the field in 2008, Galloway has registered at least 1,000 yards receiving in three of the past four seasons. The 37-year-old receiver has caught 682 passes in his career, including 77 touchdowns.

How the hell are the Patriots getting all these players? I wish Peyton would take a paycut so the Colts can sign some decent defensive players. He makes so much from commercials and endorsements alone.

Re: How are they getting these guys:
The Matt Cassel/Vrabel trade cleared about $15 million in cap space, so that certainly helped.

I think the Pats are loading up this year because it may be their last shot for a while. Moss is entering the last year of his contract and there are a ton of high end defensive players whose contracts are up, such as Wilfork and Seymour just to name a couple. No way are they going to be able to keep this team together.
They should get some help in the draft with 12 selections including compensatory picks.

Why get him? They have a stud trio in Moss, Welker, and Lewis. What's the need for a 4th receiver?

For Joseph - "How are they getting all these guys?"
Maybe because they made the playoffs in 6 outta the last 8 seasons (with one of those years being because Brady was out), including a season with an NFL record 18-0 start leading into the Super Bowl and a record breaking offense. Hmmm, who wouldnt wanna play for them....
And for Redskins0492 , because of injuries guy. Just because they have a nice trio of M,W,L doesnt mean they are set. Injuries happen all the time ,and when a quality WR that is as old as Galloway (meaning he has experience and seen almost everything) that still has speed and you can get him for cheap an organazation as smart as the Pats arent gonna let him pass by. Not a Pats or Galloway fan really but good smart low risk signing....

I understand that, but WRs don't get injured too often, and I would think Galloway would atleast want an opportunity to be the #2 receiver.

hey bears don't you get it? it's not about being number one, two or three if you're a patriot. it's about T E A M. how do you think the legs on the db's of other teams are going to feel in the second half after switching out Moss and Galloway. these guys are both getting long in the tooth so why not alternate plays and keep their legs fresh

Just remember this ,the Pats will trade some of there picks and will end up with at least another 1st and 2nd round pick next year. Also they are not done in the free agent market and still have cap room to resign some of there own players to new long term deals. As the dynasty turns cant wait til september.

First the reason they have cap room yes is because Matt Cassell and Vrabel But because Tom Brady is not greedy he took less money so the TEAM can sign GOOD PLAYERS to be around him. That is a TEAM player Unlike other HIGHLY TALENTED QUATERBACKS or even other star PLAYERS these guys sometimes are so dam greedy and out of touch with reality it is not even funny and it is sad sometimes that they just forget what the average family lives on and how people struggle everyday to make ends meet. I hope the Patriots Keep signing good players and get another SUPERBOWL this year the season ago when they lost was heartbreaking because we would have heard the last of the 72 DOLPHINS yack yack yack when actually who the HELL did they play that year 90% of the teams they played had loosing records and they Barely won some of the games When the PATRIOTS played the NFL'S BEST teams when they had the PERFECT REGULAR SEASON AND CAME WITH IN 39 SECONDS OF A PERFECT SEASON if it was not for that 1 in a million catch and 1 in a million break by MANNING don't get me wrong the GAINTS out played the PATRIOTS THE WHOLE GAME AND DESRVED TO WIN but would have been nice to see a perfect season when the team played the NFL's best teams when they went PERFECT

Pats are stacking there cards!!! No doubt they will go to Superbowl once again. Fred Taylor will be another Corey Dillon ,at least 1-2 more good years.Just think of what he will be able to do with a passing threat with Moss, Walker and Galloway. Just too much to defend against. The Pats are going to break this thing wide open man. I dont even care about the D because they will be able to score at will. Good Luck to the other 31 teams . Just watch and learn. GO PATS

HAHAHAHAHAHA yamaha i think you have maybe crashed that watercroft a few to many times. WHY ARE YOU COMMENTING ABOUT SOMTHING YOU KNOW NNNOOOOOTTTHHHHIIIINNNGGGGGG about??!!! You sound like the stupidest person to ever post on here. Let me ask you something ... do you even know how much Tom Brady's salary affects the Pats cap ?? Last year his salary alone took up $14,621,320 , the second most under Payton Manning. On the other hand a guy like Drew Brees -who has thrown for over 4,400 yards in back to back to back seasons (including last year when HE WENT OVER 5,000 YARDS throwing to 3rd and 4th string recievers for most of the year), something Brady hasnt even done in back to back years - had a salary that only counted $9,000,000 against the Saints cap. So if your gonna talk about anyone in that light it should be Brees , not a guy that didnt play all year and still counted FOURTEEN MILLION DOLLARS AGAINST HIS TEAM"S CAP. Your lack of knowledge on the subject your trying to preach to others about astounds me yamahamamamamama.....
