Assuming the Rams don't screw up the second-overall draft pick, this has really been a great offseason. It started with hiring an up-and-coming coach in this league, Steve Spagnuolo. They've added depth to the secondary, shored up the middle of the offensive line, and now have signed a great fullback. Mike Karney, who had previously spent his entire five-year career with the New Orleans Saints, will now be helping clear holes for Steven Jackson.
The 27-year-old Karney is everything you want in a fullback. He's a quality blocker who can catch outlet passes from the backfield when need be -- he's accrued 53 catches for 295 yards and a couple touchdowns in his career. He can also gain the short-yardage touchdown when the defense is concentrating elsewhere, as he's scored five times in the past three seasons.
Assuming the Rams replace Orlando Pace with one of the beastly tackles in the upcoming draft, the offense already looks vastly improved to last season's. They'll need Jackson to remain healthy, but Karney and the improved line -- with Jason Brown -- should go a long way in helping him do so.
Obviously, there's more work to be done, but they are moving in the right direction in St. Louis.

It was way too early to release Pace and it is definately too early to get rid of Torry Holt. If they do, he will be a Cowboy and he could make the team a contender. Cap room or not, a great team needs to show loyalty. Orlando started 14 games last year. He is going to be a great addition to someone, hopefully not someone in the NFC West.

The Word I'm hearing is the success Avery initially was having, was cut short when teams realized they no longer needed to double team Torry Holt. It's seems after the knee surgery he was no longer a threat to go deep. The 10.2 Mill they would pay Torry goes a long way into rebulding the team.
Pace has missed games due to injury for the past 3 season and he is not getting any younger.
The fact that no one signed them right away speaks of how the other teams in the NFL now view them both. The Rams Cut Cory Chavous too and WiLL Witherspoon said he would miss his presence in the lockeroom, But he said the team has to move foward and he is excited about the changes.
I hate to see them go , but better than than another 2-4 win season.
