Trent Edwards Very Much Looking Forward to Playing With T.O.

North America's Team is back on the map. All it took was four consecutive losing seasons, a nine-year playoff absence and a locker room cancer that nobody else wanted. Welcome to Buffalo Bills football, people.

Who knows if Terrell Owens' presence will have any bearing on whether the Bills make the playoffs, but the team, the town and its fans will be relevant again. When the news broke, my first thought was: uh-oh, Trent Edwards won't last to Halloween. We've seen this movie and it doesn't end well: a young-but-promising quarterback still learning the position, playing alongside a guy known as much for his on-field tantrums as his big-play abilities.

Funny story: Edwards urged the front office to get Owens and he's looking forward to playing with the 35-year-old mercurial wideout.
"The thing I like about him, and what I think that all stems from, is him wanting to win ... That's something I'm going to keep in mind. I spoke with him briefly on the phone and told him that. I don't want to sit home in January. I don't want to sit home in February. I want to play football. I want to be out there in the playoffs. I want to take this team to that level. I know he's taken those teams that he's played for in the past to that level, and I'm hoping I can do the same."
Edwards also pointed out that T.O. will take the pressure off Lee Evans, which is always a good thing. Not only that, but the running game -- whether we're talking about Marshawn Lynch or Fred Jackson -- should also benefit from having one fewer defender standing near the line of scrimmage.

And for all the talk of Owens going "Falling Down" on his new teammates, I actually think he'll be on his best behavior in 2009. He was a model (and productive) citizen during his first year in both Philly and Dallas, and it wasn't until subsequent seasons that things turned south. No idea if it'll be enough to make the Bills winners, but it certainly seems worth the risk.
