Heading into the offseason, the Rams had a laundry list of needs. One of them was to find a strong safety to start in front of the hard-working, yet untalented Todd Johnson. Monday, the Rams likely satisfied that goal by acquiring James Butler. Butler is a 26 year-old, four-year veteran who had played his entire career with the New York Giants. It's entirely plausible that his previous relationship with Steve Spagnuolo -- former Giants' defensive coordinator and new head coach in St. Louis -- had something to do with this signing.
Regardless, Butler will be receiving some nice compensation in the Gateway City. He's reportedly signing a four-year deal that could pay him a total of $17 million, should he meet a series of incentives.

The Rams have now taken care of a portion of their No. 3 need -- according to some dude named Matt Snyder. This actually gives them a really solid duo at safety, including the franchised O.J. Atogwe. They can turn their focus to the other 27 roster holes they now possess.

First!! And with something to say.
Right on Rams! The new regime is off to a good start. With Butler and Atogwe manning the safety positions and Bartell resigned, the secondary is starting to look a lot better. Jason Brown was an excellent addition for the middle of the line and I hear Mike Karney the fullback from the Saints is in town. He would be an excellent blocker for Steven Jackson. I remember seeing him in the playoffs last year when he took out two guys with one block to open a hole for Reggie Bush to get in the end zone.
I say let Holt go to the Jets for the late draft pick to open up cap space, keep Orlando Pace for at least one more year, draft Aarron Curry, the linebacker out of Wake Forest with the number 2 pick. Then see what quality players are released from other teams to see if we can pick up some veteran talent to bolster the O-line, D-Line, linebacker unit and the other cornerback position while we infuse new talent with the rest of the draft picks.
I also wouldn't mind us making a play for Anquan Boldin since he is not happy in the desert.
