Rosenhaus Says Relationship With Cardinals Not 'Strained'

I'm not sure if this is good news for Anquan Boldin, the Cardinals wide receiver who's been clamoring for a contract extension for almost a year now, but his agent Drew Rosenhaus wants to make it clear that he and Boldin are on good terms with the organization even though previous comments from the wide receiver suggested otherwise.

As proof, Rosenhaus points to the two-year, $10 million deal he negotiated for another of his clients, cornerback Bryant McFadden, the Cardinals' newest member.

Never mind that McFadden was looking for a Dominique Foxworth-type payday, or that Rosenhaus called McFadden "an $8 million a year player" if not for a midseason broken arm that allegedly affected his asking price.

Whatever, here's the spin:
"[McFadden's] contract should put all that speculation to rest," Rosenhaus said. "I know that people think my relationship with the team is strained, but when you have several clients with one team, you're going to have situations come up."
Which means that Boldin, who is looking for a raise after getting his first extension four years ago, should expect something in the one-year, $500,000 range. At least based on what Rosenhaus was able to get for McFadden.

Okay, I don't really think that'll happen. In fact, I fully expect Boldin to get paid handsomely wherever he lands. But if the Cards end up giving him a shiny new contract it won't be because they're on solid footing with Rosenhaus as evidenced by McFadden's blockbuster deal. It'll be because Boldin's worth it. And if the agent/team relationship is a tenable one, all the better. (By the way, I'd hate to think what McFadden would've gotten if the organization hated Rosenhaus.)
