On last night's episode of The Simpsons, Ned Flanders became the Simpsons' landlord and, when he evicted them, was portrayed as the devil, wearing a "Detroit Lions Fan" shirt.
Now, I don't want to be an oversensitive Detroiter here, but why, exactly, is the devil a Detroit Lions fan? Wouldn't the devil admire ruthless and conniving sports teams who want to win at all costs, like the New England Patriots or New York Yankees?
OK, so maybe the idea is that the Patriots and Yankees are successful, and the devil should be associated with a bad team, and they want to make jokes at the Lions' expense after an 0-16 season. But I still think the Simpsons' writers missed the boat here. If they wanted to associate Flanders with evil, they shouldn't have had him morph into a Lions fan. They should have had him turn into Matt Millen.

That was a lazy joke by The Simpsons writers, which has been par for the course the last five years or so.

The futility of the Lions over the past decades is not the players fault. They've had POOR coaching, LOUSY management and a SENILE OWNER WHO DOESN'T CARE. Not much into football myself, but for the sake of the Lions fans, William Clay Ford, COULD YOU JUST SELL THE TEAM to someone who CARES and get out of Dodge so to speak. PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE. The guy should have been wearing a T-shirt with Ford and Millen on it. Ford and (thank God, the erstwhile GM) Millen take the cake for STUPIDITY and INEPTITUDE, while all the while lining their own fat pockets at the expense of the long-suffering, but ever hopeful Lions fans. Please Ford, DO EVERYONE A FAVOR and just LEAVE!!!!!

Oh wow! Those mean old Patriots are just SO ruthless and conniving! They certainly win at every cost! That's how they got into the playoffs this year and won the Super Bowl, right? Oh, wait...
(And I say this as a loyal Pats fan.)

That's true I should've said 8 times a year...their fans don't travel well...
I actually do wish the team, and their fans a successful turn-around...
I'm just pissed they never got Barry Sanders any help!

Dude relax, the joke was not about Lion fans...
The premise of the joke is that the Devil Himself is a Lions Fan...and therefore the 0-16 season, get it?
Geez, it ain't funny if ya gotta explain it...Duh!
