Soon after the Cowboys released Terrell Owens, his agent Drew Rosenhaus proclaimed that T.O. had several teams interested in him and he would be signed by the end of next week. Bluster, perhaps, particularly since most every NFL team couldn't denounce Owens fast enough. But today, FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer and Alex Marvez reported that T.O. is meeting with the Bills and could sign a one-year deal before the weekend's out.
Owens, who is expected to leave tonight, has called friends with ties to the team to ask questions about the franchise and Buffalo community, a source said.Quick primer, Terrell: the weather is dreadful, but on the upside, J.P. Losman won't be around to overthrow you by 25 yards and set you off. That's Trent Edwards' cross to bear, apparently.
Owens' anger-management issues and locker-room-dividing super powers aside, the Bills do need some help at wideout. Lee Evans might be the most underrated receiver in the league, but a one-dimensional passing offense is easily contained, particularly when the quarterback hits a rough patch.
Josh Reed was second on the team in receptions in '08, but there's a huge difference between hauling in 56 passes for 597 yards and one score, and what Owens was able to accomplish in Dallas a season ago: 69 grabs for over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs.
Obviously, their circumstances are completely different -- the Cowboys featured a star-studded, high-powered offense and the Bills had Evans, Marshawn Lynch and a second-year quarterback trying to find his way.
Still, on paper, T.O. makes the Bills a better team, but will he be enough to get them back to the playoffs? You know, before he does his thing? Or maybe a small town is exactly what Owens needs at this point in his career. It'll be just like "Doc Hollywood."
