The Broncos went through a decade's worth of running backs last season, and maybe that's why they're overcompensating for it during the first week of free agency. Denver has signed 10 players since last Friday, including running backs Correll Buckhalter, JJ Arrington (even if temporarily), and now LaMont Jordan. If nothing else, there will be no need to summon Tatum Bell from the Cellphone Hut.
The Broncos continued their unprecedented free-agent buying spree today by signing veteran running back LaMont Jordan to a two-year, $2.5 million contract.Jordan, like Jabar Gaffney and Lonnie Paxton, come to Denver from New England, the previous home of new head coach Josh McDaniels. Normally, this would be part where I'd make some reference about Jordan being the next Broncos back to rush for 1,000-plus yards in Mike Shanahan's zone-blocking scheme.
The deal includes a $500,000 signing bonus so make no mistake, Jordan is not here as a look-see for training camp.
But that offense, like Shanahan, is out; McDaniels will install a system that relies heavily on the pass and features more draw plays than traditional running plays. At least that's the thinking based on his M.O. with the Patriots.
In any event, Jordan had success in limited action with the Patriots last season, rushing for 363 yards in eight games (4.5 yards ypc) and scoring four touchdowns. There's no reason to think he won't be just as effective on a part-time basis next season. Assuming, of course, that the team can persuade Jay Cutler that they really weren't going to trade him.

What a surprise......another New England player/coach joins the Broncos. This is getting ridiculous. McDaniels needs to get the Patriot logo put on the helment since the Broncos are now becoming New England West.....

What's your point? The NFL is a copycat league. The Pats have obviously been successful in the last few years, so there's no reason not to pursue players from a team like that. Not to mention the fact that a coach likes to have players who are familiar with his schemes and coaching style, so they bring players with them.

My point is that these New England retreads (players/coaches) have proved to not be worth a damn in the NFL and I don't want 'em on my team.
