On the first day of free agency, the Broncos landed wideout Jabar Gaffney and long snapper Lonnie Paxton, both formerly of the Patriots. New head coach Josh McDaniels also wasted little time in shoring up one of the league's worst defenses a season ago: Denver inked safeties Renaldo Hill and Brian Dawkins. And today, the rebuilding process continues: according to Denver's CBS4, defensive tackle Darrell Reid and linebacker Andra Davis have also been signed.
Reid, formerly of the Colts, is a special teams maniac and will provide depth along the defensive line (and maybe see some time at linebacker, too); Davis joins the Broncos after a seven-year career in Cleveland where he quietly emerged as a very reliable linebacker and team leader -- two qualities the Broncos lacked a season ago. That he has experience in the 3-4 defense makes him even more attractive to Denver.
If there's one concern, it's this: Davis is 30. But McDaniels saw firsthand in New England that linebackers can play well into their 30s and if the defense improves, age won't be an issue. Plus, it's only Day 2 of free agency; more changes are sure to come before minicamp.

Andra Davis never got the respect he deserved in Cleveland. Good pickup.

These actually seem like pretty solid moves. As a Charger fan, I'm a bit sad that the Broncos won't be relying on Shanahan's "genius" anymore. I think the Broncos will compete this next year. Too bad...
