Bart Scott's Jets Contract Reportedly Not Done Deal Yet

Bart ScottFormer Baltimore Ravens linebacker Bart Scott has signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the New York Jets, according to ESPN's John Clayton. That update piggybacks on news from earlier on Friday, when both the National Football Post and NFL.com's Adam Schefter wrote that Scott had agreed in principle to a deal that would relocate him to New York.

UPDATE: A radio report out of Baltimore at approximately 3:15 ET explained that Bart Scott has not actually signed with the Jets yet, and in fact may wind up with the Ravens after all. The Ravens reportedly agreed to match New York's $40 million offer, and now the price appears to have climbed to $42 million.

Scott was expected to visit New York today, but things quickly escalated. He would rejoin ex-Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan -- now the Jets head coach -- for his first season in New York.

This could be a very solid addition for the Jets, who not only add an impressive 28-year-old linebacker, but also bring in somehow intricately familiar with Ryan's defensive schemes.

What's interesting to watch now is how Scott's decision impacts Ray Lewis. New York was one of the potential landing spots for the future Hall of Famer, but this would take the Jets out of the running for Lewis' services. Where does he turn from here? Maybe Dallas, if the Cowboys will have him, but if that fails, it could be back to Baltimore for the longtime Raven.
