The draft has become one of the biggest events of the year for NFL fans. Maybe because everybody's a winner on draft day, or maybe because hope springs eternal and all that. Whatever the reason, we're fully trying to horn in on the action. Round 2 of the FanHouse mock draft follows. And we'd like to stress "mock."
- 1. Lions: Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia
Detroit has plenty of needs, and quarterback is one of them. (Previously: Matthew Stafford)
-- Bruce Ciskie - 2. Rams: Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
See above. (Previously: Eugene Monroe)
-- Matt Snyder - 3. Chiefs: Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
Arguably the safest pick in the draft, and will immediately upgrade the middle of the Chiefs' defense. (Previously: Brian Orakpo)
-- Shane Bacon - 4. Seahawks: Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
So he's hurt. Whatever. He's going to run the 40, he's going to run well and if there's a chance he could get better after healing up, well, yikes. Seahawks still love the guy. (Previously: Michael Crabtree)
-- Will Brinson - 5. Browns: Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State CB
Sure, Jenkins didn't run a great 40 at the combine but he's still the best corner in the draft. Put differently: if you're a Browns' fan, who would you rather see, Jenkins or Brandon McDonald? (Previously: Malcolm Jenkins)
-- SB - 6. Bengals: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
Cincy's offensive line has been decimated by injuries and inconsistency in recent seasons. (Previously: B.J. Raji)
-- BC - 7. Raiders: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
Oakland has already parted ways with Ronald Curry and Javon Walker could be next. Plus, Al Davis loves the thought of giving JaMarcus Russell a legit vertical threat. (Previously: Aaron Curry)
-- Adam Gretz - 8. Jaguars: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
Let the Andre Smith free fall begin. The Jags, recognizing that they need to be safe rather than risk the upside of Smith, take the next best option for the o-line. (Previously: Andre Smith)
-- WB - 9. Packers: Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas
Aaron Rodgers might like an offensive lineman here, but probably wouldn't mind playing with a defense, too. (Previously: Jason Smith)
-- BC - 10. 49ers: Everette Brown, DE, Florida State
Manny Lawson is still raw and the 49ers are still a 3-4 team. (Previously: Jeremy Maclin)
-- AG - 11. Bills: Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State
Different guy, same story: Schobel's not getting any younger and it's hard to pass up a talent like Maybin here. (Previously: Everette Brown)
-- WB - 12. Broncos: B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College
When you go through an entire season without a defense, this seems like as good a place as any to start. (Previously: Ray Maualuga)
-- Josh Alper - 13. Redskins: Ebon Britton, OT, Arizona
Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen are on the downsides of solid NFL careers and Britton would fill an obvious need along the o-line. (Previously: Aaron Maybin)
-- MS - 14. Saints: James Laurinaitis, OLB, Ohio St.
Just like last week, New Orleans could use a safety, but there aren't any that merit going this early. That said, any upgrade to the defense helps. (Previously: Vontae Davis)
-- Tom Mantzouranis - 15. Texans: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC
To recap from v1.0: in real life, Houston probably tries to trade down, but there's certainly room on the roster for a really good linebacker. (Previously: Brian Cushing)
-- Stephanie Stradley
- 16. Chargers: Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
It sounds like the team and LaDainian Tomlinson are talking over all their problems, and Jackson will bookend Shawne Merriman nicely. (Previously: Knowshon Moreno)
-- WB - 17. Jets: Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
The name changes but the point remains: if Rex Ryan wants the Jets defense to resemble those successful Ravens' squads, he'll need some cover cornerbacks. (Previously: D.J. Moore)
-- JA - 18. Bears: Andre Smith, OL, Alabama
Enough is enough. He'll be fine. (Previously: Percy Harvin)
-- MS - 19. Buccaneers: Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
And suddenly Luke McCown doesn't seem like such a bad option. (Previously: Peria Jerry)
-- AG - 20. Lions: Ray Maualuga, LB, USC
Ernie Sims would appreciate the gesture. (Previously: Clay Matthews)
-- BC - 21. Eagles: Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter won't play forever, and Moreno would hopefully mean Andy Reid wouldn't abandon the run altogether. (Brandon Pettigrew)
-- Enrico Campitelli Jr. - 22. Vikings: Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
Pettigrew won't run past anybody, but he's the best blocking tight end in the draft and he'll catch anything thrown in the immediate vicinity. (Mark Sanchez)
-- JJ Cooper - 23. Patriots: D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
With Tom Brady allegedly on schedule, upgrading the defense is a priority. (Previously: Alphonso Smith)
-- AG - 24. Falcons: Clay Matthews, LB, USC
Last time it was Larry English, but whoever Atlanta takes here, it'll likely be Keith Brooking's replacement. (Previously: Larry English)
-- JC - 25. Dolphins: Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina
Nicks has been described as a Hines Ward and Anquan Boldin-type player. Which also makes him a Bill Parcells-type player. (Previously: Hakeem Nicks)
-- AG - 26. Ravens: Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
Chris McAlister has been released and Samari Rolle is in the twilight of his career. (Previously: Darrius Heyward-Bey)
-- SB - 27. Colts: Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi
Indy could also begin the search for Marvin Harrison's eventual successor (even if he remains with the team), but finding a big body up front is an option here too. (Previously: James Laurinaitis)
-- MS - 28. Eagles: Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio St.
Donovan McNabb wants playmakers and Robiskie, who turned in a solid combine, could be that guy. He doesn't have the athleticism of, say, Randy Moss, but he does everything well. (Previously: Michael Oher)
-- EC
- 29. Giants: Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
Dear Sinorice Moss, this is what we were hoping for when we drafted you in '06. (Previously: Kenny Britt)
-- BC - 30. Titans: Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
If the word on the street is true about Albert Haynesworth, Ayers makes sense. (Previously: Tyson Jackson)
-- JC - 31. Cardinals: Beanie Wells, RB, Ohio State
Even though Arizona hasn't ruled out keeping Edgerrin James, he's not an every-down NFL back. In fact, he hasn't been for some time. (Previously: Beanie Wells)
-- MS - 32. Steelers: Alex Mack, C, California
Mack is the best offensive lineman on the board and he can play guard while Justin Hartwig capably mans the center position. (Previously: Alex Mack)
-- JC

Comments (Page 1 of 2)
#1. Detroit wastes pick
#2. Smart teams pick after Detroit, and laugh about how dumb they are.
round2
Repeat above.
DETROIT THAT WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO PUT AN NFL TEAM
Ugh, I know the Skins need o-line help, but I don't like them using #13 on a relatively low-ranked underclassmen OT. If the Skins use their 1st rounder on a o-lineman, he needs to be someone who will be a guaranteed starter. Assuming Monroe, Smith, Oher and Smith are taken by #13, there are too many good LBs and DEs to pass up on here.
I'm a Crimson Tide fan and a Bears fan and always wish they'd take a Bama guy. This would be awesome if Smith fell to them. I'd guarantee that Chicago fans would be calling and complaining that they don't want him but it's easy to forget that this guy was voted the best lineman in the country and was projected to be a Top 5 pick before the combine. It's not every day when a guy like that falls to you at 18.
That said, I'm hoping they take a WR, like Heyward-Bey.
I agree adam, we need o-line help bad but thats an awfully high pick for an underclassman. I say we trade down and grab two lineman.
whats with all these mock drafts haveing the redskins taking an OT, its plain crazy samuels just finished a pro bowl season he woulda played in it if it wasent for the bicep injury and jansen is gonna get his spot took by stephen hyer
which he woulda started the whole year last year if it wasent for a shoulder injury,
the redskins are picking a OSLB/DE that can get a good pass rush, which will make perfect sence when they just releasd washington.come on so called experts!! and stop saying samuels is old which he may be in age but have u watched the guy play.
we have jason taylor, andre carter, london fletcher (extremely underrated), and rocky mcintosh...we be good, and i think we NEED Andre Smith
I wanted Orakpo, Brown, or Maybin ... should I have gone with Tyson Jackson? That seems like a reach there, no?
sorry let me be specific when i meant OSLB/DE i meant a guy whos a DE that can be converted into a OLSB, so he will have that pure pass rush ability, but ur right bK were set and end and at middile and on the other outside backer,Matt u hit it on the tip of the nail too with those names i personally would love to see them pick up orakpo, or maybe they can trade down and pick up Michael Johnson from GT.
The thing is, the Skins already have a number of DEs on the roster, some vets, and some promising young guys. The only reason I see them taking a DE is to convert them to a LB, like a few people were saying. Orakpo seems most likely to convert, and he's already talked to the Skins about it. If he doesn't (and most likely won't) fall to 13, we should get one of the LBs. I'd be happy with pretty much any of them: Laurinaitis, Cushing, Maualuga or Matthews. Great players, would be good additions for MLB or OLB.
The only other position we should look at for the 13th pick is an o-lineman, but only if one of the top guys falls to us. Last thing we should do is draft a 2nd round pick at #13.
Also, I love how there are so many Skins fans around here.
WOW...i'm a 'skins fan, and i'd rather have Andre Smith than Ebon Britton....WTFF????
is Sanchez not a first rounder anymore? Hard to imagine Stafford being a whole round better than Sanchez.
A much improved mock draft, but personally, I don't see my skins reaching for a OT. I see them taking Cushing or Lauraniatis to replace Marcus Washington. Stephon Heyer has proven he's great in pass protection, and Samuels is a superstar LT. We need Guards more than anything, and that can be taken care of in the second round.
Actually, I see them trading down, since they have so few picks.
And if the Albert Hanesworth rumors turn out to come true, I see them moving down the the end of the first round and taking a OT then.
i am a steeler fan here they always seem to draft good players i would hope they get o line help but remember we just won it allwith the player we had. a center would be a good pick.
After the results of combine are all in, this list will dramatically change.
The Giants picking Harvin?? That will never happen. We have no need for 5'8 guys with no true position.
Yeah, I like this pick for the Bengals, it has to be 0-line and I prefer Jason Smith over all the other tackles including Monroe. And to the redskins fan, Adam, I agree, Ebon Britton is way overrated in this mock. He had the 2nd shortest arms of o-line men. He's a late 2nd early 3rd round prospect, so at 13 definitely a reach. And I'm a huge buckeye fan, but Brian Robiskie 1st round?!? He's solid but no first rounder, this guy's as bad as the 40yd dash timer at the combine lol.
Where's Sanchez? He's a top 10 pick!!
How is alex mack 30th, i mean if you had a player with telekinesis and can turn into goo wouldnt they be drafted first.
I am a huge steeler fan. Went to the Super Bowl. I would be very mad with mack. He is a zone blocker and we don't need a center. Hatwig is good. We have Starks to play left tackle. If we draft a tackle like Willaim Beatty, Willie Colon can move to guard. Or I think Duke Robinson would be a great pick and take Kemotu spot. Plus i hear Jeff Saturday wants to play guard for us.
