Maybe he will go on to NFL greatness, but for now, Dan Orlovsky is best known as "that dude who ran out of the end zone for no apparent reason." The Lions' 2005 fifth-round pick, Orlovsky started started seven games at quarterback last season, but has decided to test the free-agent market instead of returning to Detroit. It has less to do with the Lions' 0-16 putridity and more to do with the organization telling Orlovsky, in so many words, that there was a better chance he'd lead the league in rushing yards than win the starting quarterback job.
"They made an offer, but I'm going to test the market and see what's out there for me," Orlovsky told the Associated Press Monday, adding that he'd been told by Lions officials he'd back up Culpepper next season. "I'm pretty confident that I'm going to get a better offer."General manager Martin Mayhew denies Orlovsky's assertion, naturally. "I told Dan when I talked to him: 'The best player will play ... If you come in here and you're the best player to help us win football games, you'll start.'"
A couple things worth pointing out: still no mention of Drew Stanton, the team's 2007 second-round pick. Also, no matter who you believe, the Lions still could be in the Matt Stafford/Mark Sanchez business with the first-overall pick. Or, as has been suggested numerous times, they should focus on the offensive line before searching for a franchise quarterback. Makes sense in theory; whether Detroit actually follows through is another matter entirely.

How can they even THINK of linemen or Quarterbacks when there are wide recievers available.

hahaha well said baczik.
It's easy to answer who the Lie-Downs will draft? The wrong player.
Welcome to hell detroit fan.
FYI, Matt Millen was outdated, wasted millions, and got consistently crushed by the competition. He was the quintessential Detroit GM

Receivers? First overall pick on a receiver? Baczik have you not been paying attention to all the WR they have drafted? They have a no. 1 in Calvin Johnson, they need to draft a lineman and then maybe get a WR later in the draft.

Come on.....you did not get the reciever joke!! I laughed instantly!! As for the "lie down" comment....you had better be from Detroit...if not, you had NEVER visit!! I was born, and raised (and yes, cursed) a Lions fan. I do not have alot of faith right now (the owner is still the same, and how in the hell does ANYONE even involved with a 0-16 team keep their job???). As for Orlovsky...don't let the door hit you in the ass!! Ummmm...you suck?? Ummmm....you ran out of the back of your own end zone??? Ummm...BYE!!! Throw Stanton's "none sprial throwing butt out too (Millen was soo bad he drafted a zillion recievers, and a quarter back who cant throw a SPRIAL!!!). Use Culpepper for a year, draft a QB (check if he knows what a big "white" line in the back of the end zone means, and if he can throw a pass that most high school players can), late in the 1st round...grab a good O-line man, or and good Defensive player with the first.

I agree wit Mr Elliott. The lions has been going down hill since they could'nt convince one of the greatest running backs of all time! to stay (Barry Sanders)The need to put presure on the opposing teams QB and they need to learn how to block fo ther QB if they can due those two thing they will be succesful.

Hey Mr. Elliot, you should check out old Cleveland Browns footage from their "cardiac kids" days--Brian Sipe had one of the ugliest throws around, yet was a great QB. It was almost bizarre, watching yet another of his "wounded ducks" float into the waiting hands of his receivers, time and time again. I'm not arguing your position on your QB, I'm just saying the form doesn't always make or break the man.

I agree with Orlovsky, he is a good quarterback,( much better than Culpepper) and all he needs is couple of blockers up front????? get rid of culpepper, keep Orlovsky, and draft a pair of Offensive Tackles

Mr. Elliott,,,,,,,some of what you say is correct, but Get rid of Culpepper,,,,he is useless and will go no where, if you dont like Orlovsky or stanton who cares? you can build a team from the offensive line back,,,,,,thats where its at,,,,,,unless you are Matt Millen??? You can't blame Orlovsky for crossing the white lineLOL,,,,hell if you played for the lions, you would be in the nose bleed section of the end zone running away from the opposing defense,,,,,,
