Andre Smith has had a fun week. Considered one of the best -- if not the best -- left tackles available in the April draft, the former Alabama standout showed up to the combine chubbier than usual and not at all ready to work out. Then he went missing. Apparently, it was a misunderstanding -- at least to hear his agent explain it. Okay, fine. These things happen. But there's more, and it's not pretty. Via SI.com's Tony Pauline, not only was Smith out of shape and in need of a watch, his people-person skills could also use a little work.
Sources later said Smith's interviews with teams have been going horribly. He's been inappropriately dressed and has been giving a number of conflicting statements as to why he was choosing not to workout at the combine. Several offensive line coaches have already suggested Smith be removed from their team's draft board and there's no doubt his draft stock is falling. It's an interesting strategy, particularly if the goal is to lose as much money between now and draft day. As Mike Mayock pointed out during yesterday's NFL Network coverage, you have to wonder about a guy who can't even be bothered to show up prepared for the most important job interview of his life.
And while there have been pre-draft slip-ups in the past -- Lawrence Phillips immediately comes to mind -- no potential top-5 pick has had a worse combine experience than Smith. Even Glenn Dorsey, who raised questions by showing up late to last year's combine, had a legitimate excuse: his grandmother had died.
Of course, none of this will matter if Smith is still drafted early. Not until he flakes out and forgets to show for a game, anyway.

This is the same guy who was benched for his bowl game because of "issues" guess he still has them. Does this really matter he will still be in the top 10, but I bet he will be a bigger bust than mandarich
