Apparently 49ers coach Mike Singletary was talking for himself when he said San Francisco wouldn't rule out trading for Michael Vick. The only team to publicly admit that it would consider acquiring the Falcons quarterback once he's released from prison has quickly squashed that notion just one day after leaving the door open.A team spokesman made it clear on Tuesday night that there is no way the 49ers will bring in Vick, which either means that Singletary wasn't pre-briefed when he talked to the media on Monday, or the 49ers started seriously thinking about it when the question was brought up on Monday, and by Tuesday had realized they weren't going to head in that direction.
It's more likely that Singletary hadn't sat down and talked to the front office about Vick before he talked about it with the media, and once the info got out there, the front office quickly worked to shoot that down.

Can't blame them for that. The last thing the 49ers need is a media circus that involves Michael Vick. His choices are basically limited to the Raiders and...well...no one at this point.
Vick better be calling Al Davis up ASAP.

I would hope that anybody with any sense of decency at all would not even want to go near Vick. That said, he'll fit in with the Raiders just fine.

I am a 49er fan. I cannot believe that the 49ers, even in a misguided moment, would express any interest in Michael Vick. I don't believe the owners of the 49ers are good operators, but I did have at least a fledgling belief and hope that Mike Singletary would be good for the team. It appears I may be mistaken. The 49ers are going to continue to flounder. With judgement like Singletary's they will be looking for another head coach in the not too distant future. Geez, and they also fired Mike Martz so they could go out an get someone with less experience and accomplishment to guide the offense. Like I said, I am 49er fan, but I sure am disappointed in them right now.

Hey Haters,
Being a huge animal lover and owner of a Pitbull, I agree Mike Vick's action's were deplorable & heinous. Having said that, dude has done his time and paid his dues(to the tune of 130 mill). We live in a society of second chances. I am all for the Niner's giving Vick a chance. The problem here is San Francisco is so extemely left, the liberal freaks would have a field day. Maybe, he could get a look in Oaktown, anyway, let the guy have an opportunity.

Why in the hell would you think Vic deserves a second chance, Yes he did time, Just not enough,
Only thing Vic should get is DEATH. If Sick Vic got picked up by The Niners, I would have a yard sell, everything must go. except Montana..things

To stevetrueheart: take heart, I don't there's any reason to throw Singletary under the bus yet. The way I heard it reported, it just sounds like he was being diplomatic when the question came up, saying that all options were currently open until he had a chance to speak with those above him. He never said that he was considering bringing in Vick, only that from what he knew at that time, he couldn't rule it out. Your coach realizes he's just one voice in the decision-making chain, and not the final one.

The 49ers are smarter than that. As someone else mentioned, it wasn't up to Coach Mike to shoot it down until the main office discussed it.
Vick will be playing in Oakland by the pre-season, I guarantee it. He's got Raider written all over him...

Whether Mike Vick deserves to be in the NFL or not, is a totally subjective matter. There are plenty of murderers, drug abusers, rapists, and immoral thugs that are playing in the NFL currently. But you are going to pass judgment on a a guy who fought dogs?
The bottom line here is; Can Mike Vick help my football team?
I am a diehard Falcons fan and I was disappointed to say the least when all of "his drama" came down. However, I truly believe in 2nd chances and I would give M.V. that 2nd chance on my team, The Atlanta Falcons. The reason? We do not have a legitimate back-up! Chris Redman??? Puleeze! Bring Vick back into the fold with his "complete" understanding that he will back up Matt Ryan, and that he will likely see some playing time in certain passing formations and Hey! What about that "wildcat" formation? Can you imagine Vick in that animal? It was literally designed for him!!!
Mike Smith, Tom Demitroff!!! Are you listening? In this business, it's about wins on the field and if you don't believe that M.V. upgrades our current Falcons...You might want to check your ego and sanity!
Get off your high horse everyone! Who hasn't made some mistakes in their life and has skeletons in their closet!
You think that sports stars should be any different?
Get a grip, they are not. In fact, they are more susceptible to the pitfalls of life, bad charachters, and bad decisions!
*(There was only one perfect person ever and that was more than 2009 years ago!)
