That Arizona Fleaflicker Play Has a Name: 'The Philly Special'

Ryan already broke down how the now famous Arizona Cardinal modified fleaflicker that resulted in a 62 yard Larry Fitzgerald touchdown has a history in Ken Wisenhunt's playbook, dating to the Steelers in 2005.

But it turns out, via the esteemed Larry Brown, that there's a little more history behind it as well, particularly with the Philadelphia Eagles. So much so, in fact, that the specific play is actually known as "The Philly Special" because it seeks to take direct advantage of Jim Johnson's aggressive blitz packages.
Three years ago, when [Saints head coach Sean] Payton and Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley were working together in Dallas, Payton introduced Haley to a play called "The Philly Special."

It was a trick play designed specifically to burn the Eagles' aggressive defensive scheme, and Payton had used it successfully against Philadelphia when he was coaching in New York during the Giants' Super Bowl run in 2000-01.
As the Times-Picayune points out as well, Haley never actually used it while he was with Dallas, but obviously knew of the play's potency, because he advised Brian St. Pierre (he is useful!) to be on the lookout for an ideal time to utilize it against the Cardinals.

It's really more than just a fun piece of trivia though; it points to the fact that Haley is a heck of an offensive coordinator and his future as a head coach. Too bad Dallas never had the chance to hold onto him.
