There's been some internal discussion as to whether Ryan Clark's hit on Willis McGahee was legal or not (based on the helmet-to-helmet nature). I'm saying it's shady, others think it was incidental. Adding to my skepticism is the fact that Clark is also the guy who laid out Wes Welker (video here) and Matt Jones this year, so it's not like this is the first time he's been a touch aggressive with a "tackle" in 2008-09. Judge for yourself.

Shouler hit my butt....aiming low-NOT! He was clearly aiming high and wound up also holding his head and helmet....the only item more felonious than the hit, was the non-call! The NFL is doing nothing because there are idiots out there that call this hit football!

There was alot of hard hits in this game and to call this intentional is crap.He wasnt out there to take his head off,but im sure he will be pentalized in the pocket book just because hes playing hard. Football was made to play hard and people do get hurt but im sure he didnt do it on purpose. He wasnt leading with his head, get your vision checked moron.

Don't be ridiculous! The hit was totally clean. Clark lead with his shoulder. McGahee put his head down. The helmets made contact, yes, but what, do we change the game to two-hand tap?
Mind you, Bart Scott said earlier this week that one day someone is going to take out Hines Ward and that the person who does it will get fined, but otherwise no one will care.
So, now you're saying it's a dirty hit? Wow. Hypocrite.

Funny how Baltimore's nickname is "Charm City" but they have some of the most childish, spiteful, immature, hateful, unlikeable fans in all the NFL.
If your boy Stabby McMurderWitness had plowed a Steeler like Ryan Clark did McGahee dirtbag Ravens fans would be cheering and booing the Steeler. Instead, Steelers fans were wishing Willis well and both fans and players were praying for him, including me.
Some Ravens fans know football well enough to know that NO player would *try* to do that to a fellow player. Period. Nothing the least bit intentional about that hit, and this writer is ridiculous for even suggesting it.
But- the "media" make their bones by pointing fingers and stirring sh*t.

This was not a cheap hit. If you want to talk cheap, the Ravens are masters at it. Hits are part of the game and this was a hard fought game. These two teams play like the '70's Steelers-Raiders.
I don't hear the Ravens cry foul when their players try to bend running backs in half - ask the Titans.

look people the game of football is to play and play hard,.sometimes we forget all the facts and we end up just playing hard nosed football.we don't intend to try and hurt anybody just the fact that it is what it is, you run,you pass, you catch and you get hit or tackled period. As kids you are taught to run hard and play harder, when you get into high school you are taught to play harder and smarter, when you go to college you are required to be at your best no matter what and be humble and respectful of all players.in the pros you are at that level of respect and should always remember that it could be you lying there on the ground.play hard, play smart, play with determination, and not to hurt someone on purpose.I love football and its sad when someone gets hurt, but all you can do is just hope and pray he'll be ok.

Right on Steelerfan1. Just like those Steeler/Raider games of the 70's, Steeler/Ravens games are smashmouth. I hate those purple and black puke buzzards, but I respect them cuz they come to play, just like the Raiders of the 70's. The "one for the thumb", that old slogan was grand, but I say lets get to work on the other hand. GO "Stillers"

Looks to me like Clark was coming in with the intention of hitting his upper body in order to knock the ball loose. McGahee bent down into that hit.
If the shoe was on the other foot and Ray Lewis laid that hit on Heinz Ward all of you BIRDBRAINS would be talking about how tuff your defense is. You got your asses handed to you from the opening kick off to the end of the game. The tougher team won, deal with it.

I don't think people understand what the ruling for leading with the helmet and helmet to helmet hits actually are. It has to be helmet to helmet with little to no shoulder contact. Clark's shoulder and helmet made contact at the same time. That isn't a cheap or illegal hit. How pussified has the league become where every time helmets make contact people are complaining about how cheap it is. I understand that blatant helmet to helmet hits are very dangerous but was he really trying to go helmet to helmet? Sometimes helmet contact just can't be avoided. Because of your forward momentum and the way your body is built it is impossible to hit with the shoulder and not make contact with the head. It just stands out when both helmets hit. It's unfortunate that he got hurt and hopefully he is ok, but an injury doesn't make something cheap. It was a clean hit that knocked the ball loose. And how was it too aggressive? His opponent was running with the ball. Why wouldn't he be as aggressive as possible when he hits him.

For all you guys that said McGahee lowered his head...That is a natural response to protect yourself and brace yourself. Clark came in high and it was on purpose. It was a dirty defenseless play and should be fined. This Clark guy has done it numerous times now to receivers and should be suspended. This is the 3rd time now he's led with hed and knocked receiver out of game. And almost his like too.

I'm not a Ravens fan, but I have to say this was a dirty hit. Clark turned to lead with his shoulder but left his feet and made first contact with his head. It may not have been a penalty but he will probably get fined. Here is how I look at it, had that been a QB in the pocket taking the same hit, it would have been a 15 yard penalty and about a $50K fine, so what makes this any different?

For all you guys that said Clark led with his shoulder are wrong. Look at the 4-5th video replay and Clark clearly led with his HEAD followed by shoulder. Should be fined AND suspended.
Either way. Hope McGahee is ok.

Did you take your meds today? Yes, he turned to use his shoulder. Yes, McGahee dropped his head. Yes, he was being aggressive. It was the freaking AFC Championship, not a gymnastics meet!

any time a player leaves his feet and launches himself at an opponent his head will lead and the fact remains that he is intending to hit the other player high. i think the end result was also attributable to mcgahee lowering his head as he braced for impact, but in the end it was a cheap shot, i only wish clark had injured himself the same way, then he would think twice about his cheap shots. i think the worst part of the entire scenario was the classlessness shown by the stadium crew in pittsburgh. when a player is potentially paralyzed should the p.a. system really be blaring music? i wish the best for willis in his recovery and i also hope that somewhere down the line someone shows all of pittsburgh that winning is not everything.
