As the Green Bay Packers continue their search for a new defensive coordinator, the only internal candidate is continuing to get opportunities elsewhere.Assistant head coach and linebackers coach Winston Moss has already interviewed for the opening in St. Louis. Monday, he had a chance to interview for the job with his former team, the Oakland Raiders.
Moss made it clear after the interview that he's excited about the chance to work for Al Davis once again. Hey, I guess someone has to be.
Moss told the San Francisco Chronicle he is thrilled to have a chance to become the Raiders' next head coach. I guess that once you're a Raider, you're always a Raider. Unless you're Rich Gannon.
"This is a very special time for me right now. Even after I left the Raiders, I always wished them well if we were not playing against them ... I want to help them win as many games as they could. As a former player, having a chance to come up and lead a football team as a head coach or in whatever capacity Mr. Davis feels would help the team, I'd be interested. You can question Moss' sanity all you want. After all, he just said publicly that he wants to work for Al Davis. The National Football Post, a site co-owned by Moss' agent, notes that the Packers blocked an attempt by the Raiders to interview Moss for their defensive coordinator position.
While Moss is willing to work for Davis in any capacity, the Packers have the right to block him from being hired as anything but head coach. Of course, it would have to be considered unwise for the Packers to keep Moss from being a defensive coordinator if the Raiders offer the chance and the Packers won't. Let him go call defensive plays, even for Al Davis, if that's what he wants to do.
I know the Packers think highly of Moss' potential, or they never would have slapped the "assistant head coach" title on him. However, there's no reason to keep him around if he has no shot at being the club's next defensive coordinator.

As a Raiders fan, I have to be skeptical about any coach that WANTS to be here.

think this game is probably taking off and most have heard of it, but for those of you who haven't you need to. Its a bit of a cross between the sims, and the madden franchise version. It only takes a couple minutes a day to keep up. You create a player join a team and play in simulated games every other day. You gain exp points and when you level up you assign your stat points how you want. The first couple days I wasn't sure but the investment is only a couple minutes so I stuck with it now its been about 3 weeks and I am addicted its too much fun.

No "cable guy" in Oakland (PLEASE). No Cowher available, no Green mentioned. If Fassel is so interested consider him. What about Billick?? Trestmen intrested, what about coordinator position on offense? Moss interested, what about defensive coordinator? Still must consider maturing Russell with a QB coach. Lots of talent on this team, very important to pick right coach to properly handle this bunch ( including Al ). This situation is unlike SF, which I think was well done.
Maybe there is a GM being considered also, the Genius of Mr. Davis has gone this far, now he MUST put a fresh mind to do the hands on work while he holds down the rest. Don't get me wrong Al is my guy since '69, but these guys need a newer touch, so to speak.
Mr Al Davis sir read this and take note Crabtree & Nicks are available at # 7, give Russell a sweet target & bring back the glory offense.

If Mr. Davis is inclined to keep Tom Cable as the Head Coach, he needs to take the additional step of incorporating a quality offensive coordinator and a QB coach to protect the investment made in JaMarcus Russell; at the same time, a defense coordinator is important to take the team to the next level. Coach Ryan did a good job this year with what he had to work with...no Burgess for most of the year; overpaid DeAngelo Hall who did not fit the system, and Tommy Kelly underperforming. The bigger concern is will be Mr. Davis obtaining a football person to run the team to allow him to concentrate on his health and his family.
