Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy will announce his retirement today, bringing to an end a coaching career that saw him win 148 games and a Super Bowl.Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that Dungy has already started making the rounds at the team's headquarters to say goodbye to players and other team employees.
The formal announcement will be made today at 5 p.m. Eastern. Dungy's longtime assistant Jim Caldwell will be introduced as the Colts' new head coach, and Dungy was reportedly motivated to retire now in part because he wanted Caldwell to inherit a strong team.
Although the 53-year-old Dungy is young enough that he could return to the game, all indications are that Dungy is done coaching for good. Dungy has said he would like to do other things with his life -- including starting a prison ministry -- and that when he walks away from the Colts, he's walking away from football forever.

Man, I am so happy but sad. I am a long time BUCS fan. I have always admired coach dungy. But now its time to come back home to TAMPA. Maybe after the BUCS coming up season He will realize how much he misses the game and return to the bucs as a defensive coordinator.

Good luck and a happy retirement to one of the classiest men to walk a sideline. Sports and especially professional football need more people like him. Without trying to be, he became a real role model of not only what a coach should be, but what a man should strive to be. Thanks coach!

Well, at least he can look forward to a long career of keynote speaking for radical Christian groups who veil their homophobic/regressive agendas as "focusing on the family."
Uh, good coach though.

What a great person the entire NFL is better becuase of him. He will be truely missed, and maybe now the COLTS will have someone to coach and have a defense that can stop the run.
