Notes from the press box at Bank of America Stadium for Panthers - Cardinals.
Jake Delhomme just had a pretty rough birthday. You would excuse him if he didn't want to talk to the media after the game and just decided to take off for whatever the hell he's planning on doing for the next week, simply in order to try and forget that the past 60 minutes of football just happened.
But he didn't do that, of course, because, as bad as Jake was tonight, he's still the type of guy to own up for his mistakes.
I'm at a loss for words. For one reason or another, I didn't give us a chance tonight.
[...] We'd get something going, we ran the bootleg and I throw a pick there. It just started snowballing.
All very true statements. The interesting thing -- although not surprising, I suppose -- is that none of Jake's teammates were lobbing him under the bus. It speaks to the team-oriented character that has always surrounded John Fox's squads. Whether Jake will actually end up being on that squad ... well, that's a different story. But at least he had the stones to accept that the loss tonight falls entirely on his shoulders. Because, frankly, it does.
[...] I should get the blame. It's inexcusable.
[...] Not even close. Yes. Not even remotely close. (On it being the 'most frustrating game'.)
[...] I'm not looking for sympathy one bit. That's the last thing I want. The work I put in this week was not good enough.

Looked to me like Jake took a dive. I am a panther fan but I have said in the past, they won't make it until they get a quarterback. Jake in the past has been too hyper and it would show on the field. but last nites outting, lets face it, nobody is that bad. I didn't even believe his acting after he would throw the ball to the other team. Even held the ball out for them to knock out of his hands and then afterwards would act like he was devistated. Not a believable performance. The fans were devistated. Sit in the rain to watch that?

So, even though the Panthers' were undefeated at home prior to the Cardinals' "showing up" yesterday, the loss was all about Delhomme, or poor coaching, or whatever finger-pointing and blame can be placed on the Panthers'?
To be expected, the general population of football fans, as well as the media, are not giving the Cards the credit they deserve.... BUT, it's O.K. ~ keep it up, because that attitude has spurred them on to where they are, and it will continue to work to their benefit as they pursue their ultimate goal....
"To be continued...." next Sunday, hopefully here in Glendale, AZ, atthe University of Phoenix Stadium!

Dave, how do you explain the previously undefeated Panthers....??? All of their previous opponents sucked....??? Or, do you follow the line of thinking that Delhomme and the Panther's coaching staff really ARE good, they just all happened to fall apart yesterday....??? It was just good karma for the Cardinals that the stars didn't align for the Panthers yesterday, of all days....???

Lynn, i was at that poor excuse of a game and now realize that its just another year for the AFC. The Cardinals arent a bad team. We simply did the same thing that they did in New England. (not show up) I hate to burst your bubble but if the Cardinals happen to get by the Eagles (no way in hell) then either Baltimore or Pittsburg will certainly expose them. Sorry Mam, its just the facts.

The Cards can thank Delhomme and the poor play calling for that win yesterday.

Jake has stunk up several games this yr. It seems he's great or terrible. on sat nite Jake had fear in his eyes almost as if he had a preminition before the game started. Another thing i've noticed is his inability to move quick enough in the pocket, compounded by his lack of feeling the pressure without seeing it. My opinion is Jake has always been a litle slow to release the ball and i think even though he's not old his play reflects that he is.

Jake has played several games this year where his performance was marginal at best. Also, a lot is made over Steve Smith, whom I think is a fantastic receiver, however, the all time winning player for the Panthers is John Kasey. Delhomme, has won many games by the skin of his teeth, never has been consistent, and if not for Smith, Muhammad, Kasey and a couple others, he wouldn't be worth much.

Quarterback Position Its true Jake has never been an overacheiver as a QB, but his performance against Arizona just concreted my opinion that Carolina needs new blood in the position. If you disagree just look @ his 3rd down performances most are incomplete or INT. He can't throw accurately and can't scamble, so what is he good for? Steve Smith's skills are being wasted on a less than fair QB.
