The Denver Broncos reportedly have their next head coach, and it's New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Broncos have decided on McDaniels and will make the announcement official on Monday. For Denver, the move makes sense: McDaniels is known for his ability to work with young quarterbacks, and the Broncos have one in Jay Cutler. Both Tom Brady and Matt Cassel have spoken highly of McDaniels, and Cutler will no doubt benefit from working with him as well.
The only question about McDaniels is whether his youth and inexperience is an issue. His only NFL experience is with the Patriots, where he's been an assistant to Bill Belichick since 2001, and he had just one year of experience as a coach at any level (1999 at Michigan State) before Belichick hired him. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen clearly thinks that in the 32-year-old McDaniels, he's got the latest coaching boy wonder.

I agree with you Gorge Turk, but the simple fact is we have a special offense coming together in Denver and we shouldn't sacrifice it. McDaniels has been a defensive assistant and also has worked under Bill Belichick, one of the greatest defensive minds of our time especially when it comes to the draft (Jerod Mayo, Asante Samuel, Ty Warren, Richard Seymour, etc.)

all these coaches keep seeing dollar signs and end up going somewhere else and only end up making the pats look bad cause their prolonged absence from the belichik umbilical cord prevents them from finding any real success. they should just stick around the master a little longer and really learn how to coach in the nfl. hey daniels dont you know how these story is going to end.

Mr. Pat - why did you get rid of Mike S if you were going to hire an offense man with little experience. Seems like a step sideways not forward. I have been a season ticket holder for years and Mr. Pat - give us what we want, not what you think we want. Bring Mike back - I thought you said you wanted a change .......Mr. Pat - listen to your fans ......

Turk is spot on. Steelers No. 1 Defense, Ravens 2, Philly - 5, Cardinals (ok 3 out 4). Lets hope he brings Romeo from Cleveland to run D. Then the Denver Patriots will have a chance.

I am a season ticket holder and have been for more than 15 years. I feel he has a great mind and is a excellent choice for the head coaching position. Be it right or wrong D-E-F-E-N-S-E is what get's you into the playoffs and WINS GAMES. I can only hope we get a great defensive coordinator to go along with the NEW HEAD COACH. My only wish was that Mike was replaced about 5 years ago. Oh well BETTER NOW THAN LATER. Sorry Mike but NO LOVE LOST HERE.

Are the Chargers looking for Ed Hochulee to blame for yesterdays loss?

Seriously??? If we wanted an Offensive Coordinator, stick with Shanahan, at least he knew what direction we're going. We needed a defensive minded coach!!!! BUT this just proves it was all about Bowlin's ego, and hiring a "baby" he should be able to remind him constantly who is truly the "boss" and it ain't the coach...Hmmm, Bowlin the next Al Davis???

Mike had the hiring and firing power. That was what was wrong and he didn't want to fire the Defensive Coordinator. The General Manager & Head Coach should never have been the same person and now Bowlin realizes that. Mike also didn't do a great job in getting defensive players.

What? Couldn't they find a black coach to make the head coach. I hate those white guys. In fact I hate white people becuase they are prejudiced against people. Thats why I hate all of the white people, becaue they are racists.

Dear TomW
Your racist comments are very idiotic and I want you to know that I am a black man. Black Coaches want to be considered,
but they don't want the job because they're black. You said you
hate wht people because they're racist, I would say, "so are you!" Every race has ignorant people just like you!

I hope they will address their defense somehow, unless the Broncos can find a way to score 55 points per game. In what I viewed this past weekend it appeared that all of the teams had a far better defense than the Broncos. Hopefully this Coach will posses the skills required in drafting some excellent defensive players. As stated earlier, unless you are going to score every time you have the ball you must have a defense that on occasion can shut down the opposition. Good Luck!!!!

theCRNA sounds like a sore division loser from Denver. It was Broncos fault for losing their last three important games. SD simply got shut down by a good defensive team . I thought they did pretty well considering they were missing some key players.
Better luck next year guy

I am sore Larry...no doubt...but Denver wasn't looking to blame anyone other than themselves...ie the firing of Shanahan!!!!! Remember...SD could have stopped the subsequent TD and again the 2 point conversion. They did neither...but cried about Hochulee's bad call.

im not happy because they did not consider a black coach. you wonder why we always get upset when they dont hier a black coach? its because there are black asst. coaches that have coached at this level for longer than this coach has been living. yet thy hire a really young coach. it makes it hard for people to argue that black coaches are treated fair. there are more experienced coaches that they could have chosen that are black. they tell you to wait your turn and when you do, they pick a less experienced coach? please help me to understand this. not to mention, cleveland fires rac for a 500 record, yet they hire a white coach from the jets, with a 500 record? come on guys you have to admit, we have a good point!

I am a John Carroll graduate and am proud that Josh will be a head coach in the NFL. But since I am from Pittsburgh and a rabid fan of the Steelers, I choose to still hate the Broncos anyway.

Until Denver gets away from this "small but fast" line and puts some real size on both the o - D lines it won't matter who the coach is! I've watched the Broncos from day one and each year I see them beaten down by the huge lines they play against. Back during the day that big linemen were like the "fridge" it made sense but today they are even bigger and faster than these "quick guys"!

Defense does win championships, but do defensive coaches? Andy Reid was not a defensive coach when he was hired. John Harbaugh was most well know for a special teams coach. Ken Whisenhunt definitely and offensive coach. Finally, Mike Tomlin is a defensive coach. I don't think Denver hiring a defensive coach over an offensive coach has any validity.
