Shortly after Adam "Pacman" Jones was informed that the Cowboys are releasing him amid an ESPN report that he was involved in a 2007 shooting, Jones said he's going to sue the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
ESPN reported that in mid-2007, Jones (who was already suspended by the NFL for his role in a different shooting incident) allegedly offered an accused murderer money to carry out a shooting at a nightclub.
If the report is false, Jones should do all he can to denounce it. But as Mike Florio notes at Pro Football Talk, there's not much chance he'll get any money from ESPN in a lawsuit. For a public figure like Jones to win such a lawsuit, he'd have to prove not just that ESPN got the story wrong, but that it acted maliciously and damaged his reputation. It would be tough to prove malice on ESPN's part and almost impossible for Jones' reputation to be damaged any worse than it already was.
So Jones isn't likely to get any money out of ESPN, and he isn't likely to earn any more paychecks from the NFL. I hope he saved the millions he's already made, because at age 25, his ability to make a living is just about gone.
Dave, how ignorant was your comment??? What corner are you standing at? Is it the one near the KKK store. Do you have "homies"? Because I don't, I have friends and they don't stereotype people like you do.
While Jones may not get any money from a lawsuit against ESPN, he will expose the devisive reporting at ESPN. While Jones' reputation may not be the most liked, in part due to ESPN's reporting, ESPN did make matters worse with their allegations.., Jones is released by Dallas. Now ESPN is on to slamming another "Black" pro footballer that they (ESPN) objects to, Owens. Guilty or not, ESPN will negatively go after Black sports figures that are defiant when questioned by ESPN's self-annointed, subjective, sports reporting "gods".
the racism card goes both ways, and it seams that in this instance well, you figure it out!. the fact that he is brown, white, yellow, orange, makes no difference if he is making death threats. news is news, and stupid PEOPLE will just go on being stupid. join the pack, idiot!
A spade IS a spade. Owens and Jones should be worried about the game of football instead they are acting in the maner a black male uausally acts (I am sure you know what I talkin' bout Homie) and ESPN is just reporting what IS happening.
it isnt that this is the first accusation on PAC-little boy( I am sorry I dont consider him a man) He has done things that would have a should have gooten him fired from even a job at McDonald's. How a person could have the world in the palm of his hands and throw it all away because of being immature is the real story here. I hope he goes to Jail because right now he seems not only to be ruining his own life but has the ability to hurt someone else. Put Him in JAIL and leave him there until he decides to became a man and own up to what he did... I am just glad we will never have to hear his name again related to the NFL
MDS, do you read other blogs or do you simply stay within the confines of your own echo chamber? I suggest you head over to D.K. Wilson's blog, Sports on my Mind, and you'll have your answer on whether or not the World Wide Leader is malicious.
Hello Pacman, to whatever planet you actually reside on: Nobody wants to hear from you, see you or read about you. At least the Cowboys wised up to your anctics which led to your downfall. Suing someone for your mistakes will not work. I hope soon to see Tank and Plaxico join you, oh and we can never forget Vick, a supreme example and leader for young fans. All of you are guilty of the same message: Some NFL players are garbage morons. Jan in Beaver, Utah
it does not matter if he shoot someone or did not!! everyone knows he has a bad attitude. he fought with his team bodyguard!! he is worhless. on top of that he did not do a damn thing to help Dallas this year when he got to play!! glad they got rid of him! NEXT T.O
Even though it's hard to have sympathy for a guy like Pac-man Jones I hate to see anyone lose his job. Hopefully Jones will have learned from his mistakes and teach future black kids about the dangers of living a wild, irresponsible life! He can still do good for himself and future black athletes.
I'm amazed at the controversy being written over this new report. It's not like Jones has made 1 mistake, 2 mistakes or even 3 mistakes. His background is full of reports of violance - and that's only the ones we hear about. I believe this is his background and its not going to change. Instead of "Packman", he should go by the moniker "Michael Vick".
can you imagine being in the general public with his history of stupidity???who would keep on hiring him at exhorbitant pay scales???the manager of a BUSINESS would be embarrassed to have an employee with that kind of record being public knowledge.but to the jerry jones's of the world it is all ok as long as you can return kicks & play occasional cornerback

Oh, he'll still make a living somehow. It just won't be as much as used to earned. Hopefully, he hasn't wasted his education.
