Georgia quarterback Matt Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno have scheduled a news conference for this afternoon, and both will announce they're leaving school early for the NFL draft.Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com reports that Moreno is definitely leaning toward entering the draft, while Stafford has had a harder time making up his mind. But as a prospect viewed by many observers as a franchise quarterback, it's hard to see Stafford returning for another year.
There has been speculation that the Detroit Lions will select Stafford with the first pick in the draft, but being sentenced to a term in the place that Matt Millen's wife calls football prison apparently won't dissuade him from turning pro. Moreno is likely a mid-first-round pick.
For Georgia, the announcement will represent a big loss. But even though Stafford has one more year of college eligibility and Moreno has two more years of eligibility, it's a loss that everyone saw coming. These two are ready to play on Sundays.

If Detroil picks Stafford in the first round they will continue their losing ways. If anyone watched him in the first half of the bowl game it is rather obvious he is not ready for prime time. He needs at least another year at the college level. The Lions would be better off picking up Rex Grossman who is probably a better quarterback for a fifth or sixth round pick and get some offensive linemen to protect him for trade downs for their first round pick.

all the lins need is a offensive front line a all new defense and add a running back with who they have he did get 1000 yds this season add a reciever and a tight end the 2 qbs they have are fine culpepper and olasky with the front line they have and the sorry coaching no qb would make it in that system u will not find no qb from no other team who out throw or move better than culpepper put culper on new england and guess what he got 4000 yrs passing why the team has a front line great coaching and good defense the only reason ryan and the qb for new england did well falcon had a great rb and good recievers and new england had mosss the other guy and a great front line put both this qbs in the lions offense and they would fail period

The lions need an offensive line and a defense. I think either Dan Orlovsky or Drew Stanton is going to end up as a superstar QB, especially when they are throwing to Calvin Johnson and Co.

Troy, that was one of Orlovsky's first starts. He's gotten a lot better since then.

It doesn't appear that Matt Stafford is ready for the NFL now, if ever...I see inconsistency through the lens of a mult-loss season. If he jumps ship on the Dawgs now, he deserves to be buried in the obscurity of Detroit's program.
