Say what you want about the Boston College athletic program, but know this: when the administration threatens to fire you, they're not just blowing smoke. On Sunday, MDS pointed out that BC football coach Jeff Jagodzinski was notified by the school that if he interviewed with the New York Jets about their head coaching vacancy, he wouldn't be welcome back in Chestnut Hill. Well, Jagodzinski met with the Jets, and today, as promised, BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo canned him. But before you get all weepy for Jagodzinski, he'll be fine.
While he is not considered a lead candidate for the Jets' post, he appears eager to get back into the NFL and might have some options with the Seattle Seahawks if he is passed over in New York.See, all's well that ends well. At least for Jagodzinski. While I have no idea if he wanted out of Boston College, his actions suggest that he was looking to get Marty Schottenheimer-ed. And that's exactly what happened.
Jagodzinski worked with new Seattle coach Jim Mora Jr. when in Atlanta and he also coached quarterback Matt Hasselbeck when he was the offensive coordinator at BC.
As for the Golden Eagles, they'll move quickly to find Jagodzinski's replacement, although it looks like Mark Whipple, thought to be the front-runner for the gig two years ago, ain't even in the conversation this time around. Somehow this is Ben Ben's fault.

This is a public relations disaster for BC. Why? Because it was stupid, stupid, stupid. Jagonzinski will be fine, of course, because good coaches seem to always land on their feet. I can't say the same for BC's clueless AD, though. I suspect that he is going to end up having to hire an uninspiring replacement for Coach JAG. Delusions of grandeur got a lot of programs in trouble.
