With the Redskins' season ending unceremoniously with a loss in San Francisco, thoughts of the 2009 season have already begun.
"I'm not a backup to nobody," Rogers said. "I'm a starter in this league. Everybody knows that. There's a lot of teams that would give their right arm to have me on their team."Rogers had a great start to the season as the team's No. 1 corner, but saw his playing time reduced towards the end of the season. That coincided with the Redskins bringing in DeAngelo Hall -- who is also looking at signing a long-term deal with the team -- and the improved health of Shawn Springs.
"In Cincinnati, I played [just] nine plays," Rogers said. "I'm used to playing 60 to 70 plays. All of a sudden, you're a backup, you're a nickel, you're a third corner. That don't sit well with me. I still haven't had answers to the questions I want to know."
Rogers plans on meeting with secondary coach Jerry Gray, who is a candidate for the Detroit Lions head coaching job. If Rogers doesn't get the answers he wants from Gray, he could request a trade.

The Saints need to look into this big time. They need corner and secondary help to make them a contender and this would be a good option where they wouldnt have to give up to much in a trade....

Your sir are an idiot. Although Hall may get more interceptions, his coverage is much worse than Rogers. Even though Rogers only had two interceptions last season, he still shut down top wide receives week in week out.

I'd say it's because you're not as good as you seem to think you are...
Let's start with the fact that you play a good ten to twelve yards off your man 'cause you scared to get beat and end up getting beat most of the time anyways!
Or how 'bout the fact that you can't catch for isht! A part of establishing dominance on your side is the fear that you'll pick a pass. Don't see that...
Your an okay corner - not great but you're not a complete waste either.
Want out.... step up your game and I wish you good luck somewhere else. peace out...

The skins could get something decent for him maybe...They need to get younger on the d-line. Maybe a draft pick?

Wow! I had a couple of responses for Rogers...
But it would seem that 3 of the 4 above hit the mark. And, come to think of it, New Orleans can have him if he thinks he's special, 'cause he ain't.
No one on the Redskins needs to be screaming about how great they are after this past season. Suck it up and get your acts together for next year guys.

Ahh come on, man! He sucks at tackling! I've personally watched him put his head down and throw a shoulder at air as the receiver that just burned him either jukes or jumps over him! How can you call this dude a "great coverage corner" when he gives away ten yards underneath and doesn't have the awareness, speed, or hands to recover? He's catching that "Prima Dona" syndrome - like Santana wiping his shoe (obviously premeditated) after a touchdown in a losing game! Too many of these pro's are so "look at me" instead of letting their game AS A TEAM speak for them. I've been a die-hard 'Skins fan all my life and I'm getting tired of the wanna-be-like Jerry Jones Mini-Me owner wasting MY money (a season ticket holder that buys all the new Redskins gear all at jacked up prices) on trying to buy championships rather than investing and building towards one. We need both an O-line and D-line. And what did we get for Taylor?! Absolutely nothing!
Please don't get me started! These guys are paid WAY too much money to be letting down the average joe that pulls together what they can to support their team. How do you explain away beating Philly only to turn around and lose to San Fran?! We beat the teams we're supposed to beat and we're in the playoffs.... go 'figure....

I agree with a number of you that have commented about this. If you caught half the interceptions you drop you would have had double digit interceptions. I think the rookie moore didn't get burned as much as you did. Carlos is getting the Champ Bailey mindset & your no Champ Bailey & Champ is no Pat Fischer. You can't look at just your good stuff, look at it all as a whole. Maybe when Jerry is talking to you he'll run film on you to show you the good plays & bad plays. I know which one will be longer. When you get burned or drop interceptions that combined total on 1 hand then talk yourself up but till then think a little before you open your mouth, you may have a short memory but us diehard Redskins fans don't.

Yeah Uh huh...Keep yapping your mouth Rogers we picked you 9th round and what you did for as not a whole nothing get beat for touchdowns and long receptions...yeah you had that one great hit and lousy interceptions, but your not a caliber corner back...if you want to leave then leave we have a great draft pick coming at 13 plus we have more corners better than you...I mean come on D Hall's 1st game had an interception...and he barely knew the playbook...while you getting burned by T.O. come on dude be real...fans see your number...we know who you are

you said it !! Carlos you need to go and stop crying, you could make a great back-up elsewhere. you had a good first half and that is all you had your whole career, you sucked last year to and was happy when you got hurt, you have been burnt alot more than the good plays you have made, plus if you could catch you would have had well over 10 picks ( I remember 4 drops in 1 game ) and who knows those picks could have meant a win. you and smoot both play way to far off the line, so please go somewhere else and maybe we could put santana against you and maybe for once cambell will throw long and moss will have a career game.

I think Carlos is still a work in progress but on the other hand Fred Smoot has got to go! How many times will he be burned? Looking at the future keep Carlos and release "Big Salery" / "Small Performance" Fred Smoot!!!

The fact is, Carlos is right. I'm not so sure Springs deserved to get his starting job back just for the simple fact that he's not durable enough or well conditioned enough to be a starter. If I had to pick between the two players, Carlos would stay; Springs would go. They'd better make an effort to keep Carlos. Springs will either be cut or retire very soon, and if they keep messing around, we'll be down to Hall, Smoot, and Tryon, which doesn't look nearly as good as Rogers, Hall, Smoot, and Tryon.
Interceptions aren't always a great indicator of how well a cornerback's playing. This guy came back after blowing out his knee in '07. He earned that job and really did nothing to lose it. Springs, on the other hand, did something to lose his job - you might want experienced starters, but there's no point in having fragile starters if you're just going to have to put the backups in for half the games anyway.
Carlos isn't saying it because he doesn't want to throw his teammate and mentor under the bus; Springs has never been durable, and now he's getting old...er.
That said, I think Carlos' comments are being taken out of context: That site does this a lot. Did Carlos specifically SAY...to YOU...that he's going to ask for a trade? I don't see that anywhere. I think Sportz Assassin is making something out of nothing.

Carlos Rogers played well in about 4 games this season. For those of you that think he is a cover corner is nuts. How can you cover someone when playing 10 yards off the man?? When he decides to move closer he gets completely spun by Mason against the Ravens. The very next game gets beat by a #3 receiver in Chris Henry against the Bengals. Opposing teams game plan is to go after Carlos Rogers week in and week out. They EXPOSE him. Which is why anyone who watches the Redskins know all his weaknesses. His biggest strength is making a tackle. But that isnt saying much after you've already given up a first down.

a.j. your right the post had a completely different story using the same quotes but he does need to get some hands. db's are gonna get burned they are defensive wideouts who obviously cant catch or then they would be offensive

For my money, RonWhiz says it best, Die hard skins fan all my life. I said last week that Blanche needs to go and I got blasted for that, and it looks like he will be back next year so I will have to deal with it. Rodgers was the Jim Thorpe winner his SR year at Auburn, Jim Thorpe is turning over in his grave. A lot of my Skins Fans counter parts see what caliber player he is. I'm not sure if the play prior to the snap has him lined up so far off the ball or his own doing but up near the line or off the line he constantly gets beat. If that is his stand and he wants to leave, the organization should act fast so he doenst become a cancer, I believe Hall would be motivitated by a contract extension to play and stay at home where he grew up. Springs has been a shut down corner since coming into the league, but always a health risk. Smoot wants to play line Springs, bump and run but plays like Rodgers off the line and gets beat, no where near the player he was his rookie season. Really evaluate Tyson this off season and see if he is ready to make a move for increased playing time, at some point these draft picks have to pan out and play.
