Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison has passed former Eagle/Vikings/Dolphin Cris Carter on the NFL's all-time receptions list, catching his 1,102nd career pass today against the Titans.Harrison is now the NFL's No. 2 all-time receiver, but he has approximately zero chance of catching the all-time leader, former 49er/Raider/Seahawk Jerry Rice. With 1,549 career catches, Rice is still more than 400 catches ahead of the 36-year-old Harrison.
Harrison isn't a good player anymore, and it's possible that this is his last NFL season. The Colts are keeping a lot of their veteran players on the sideline today, and the fact that they left Harrison in the game long after Jim Sorgi had replaced Peyton Manning suggests that they wanted Harrison to pass Carter today because he might not have any more regular-season games in a Colts uniform.
But even if you're extremely optimistic about Harrison's future, and you think he has, say, three more seasons at 60 catches a season left in him, that still leaves him more than 250 short of Rice. That's just how great Jerry Rice was.

What? Marvin Harrison isn't a good player anymore?? He's only number two all-time in career receptions. The best Smith can say is that he has no chance at catching Jerry Rice and that this is possibly Harrison's last season. How about Congratulations, Marv!!!! Go Colts -- and thank you, Marv, for all you've done for the Colts and football!!!

Listen hear, you little girl scout, I'll take some thin mints and shortbreads, and here's what else I'll tell you:
This was the biggest piece of garbage for journalism I've ever read. Mad because you're little bears aka the artists formerly known as the Monsters of the Midway got stomped in the Super Bowl a few seasons ago by Marvin and his Pony Show? Tell Rex Grossman I send him my regards. Haha.
If you want to say Marvin Harrison isn't an elite player anymore, that is fine. However, he's still a very good #2 WR, and has accomplished much more in this season than you ever will in your cynical and bitter world of poor sports' writing. I'm sure teams like the Eagles, Ravens, Raiders, etc. would kill to have a wide receiver of his calibre.
Sure, Marv may never catch Jerry Rice, but there are worse things than being #2 to the greatest WR of all time. For instance, you could be a bitter, bottom of the bucket, rift-raft sports writer. Too bad you'll never be #2 to someone like Peter Gammons, you're too worthless to be ranked.

Tell Chris McAllister and the vaunted Ravens' D that Marvin Harrison isn't a good player anymore. He scored 2 TD's on them. I'm sure Ray Lewis would have something to say to you.

your "insight" is worthless, much like the toilet paper you flush...Marvin is why Reggie is so good...yes Reggie would be good no matter what...but gee....when was the last time a defense didn't put its best corner on Marvin....i don't think he's ever not had the best any defense had...which means...Reggie gets "worse" coverage...meaning he grabs more of the offense..Marvin knows this, Tony knows this....THE ENTIRE NFL knows this

Michael David Smith, wow what a piece of garbage you are. Whats the matter you didnt get what you wanted for Christmas so you decided to bring down one of the greatest sports moments of the NFL season down to your level. True, he may never catch Jerry Rice, but lets face it Jerry played about 3 seasons more than he should have. Marv, great accomplishment and we all hope you will be in Indy next year. Still the most potient QB to WR combo ever!

Is Gonzo better... probobly. my point is this dont insult one of the greatest achivements the NFL has to offer.... 2nd greatest of all time.
