After his team lost to the Green Bay Packers to become the first 0-16 team in NFL history, Lions coach Rod Marinelli addressed the media:
"The record speaks for itself," Marinelli said. "I felt I gave it my best, but sometimes your best is not good enough."
Asked about whether he might get fired, Marinelli said he would come back into work and talk to Lions owner William Clay Ford on Monday.
Asked if he was glad the season is over, Marinelli said, "No, I could go another 16. Never. No. I love what I'm doing."

The fans of Detroit should first blame Mr. Ford. What a joke of an owner to stick with a putz like Matt Millen. What a poor excuse for a GM. He milked the $$ for it was is what worth & continued to draft poorly and make nucklehead decisions. If the normal guy performed as poorly as he continuously did, they would have been out on the streets many moons ago. Now the Lions organization is paying for the years of poor managment. Unfortunatley, things won't improve until the franchise is sold or if they just get lucky, by selecting a solid football man at the top. The coach can only do what he can do with the hand dealt to him.

Until this season, Millen had Ford believing that he was a member of the UAW. Hence the contract unrelated to performance.

I agree. The Lions appear to have played hard for the coach, but were not as talented as their opponents. Their best bet would be to trade down in the draft for multiple picks, to fill as many holes as possible. Things could improve next year. Look at the Dolphins....

I was born, and raised in the Detroit area, so...for better or for worse, I am a Lions, Pistons, Red Wings, and Tigers fan. My Fater was also born in the area, and until the day he died, was a "Detroit" fan. You can't jump ship when they suck, (or pile on the bandwagon when they win.....Pistons, Wings, Tigers). Your a true fan, and the team is in your blood. I have lived in other areas, and NEVER replaced my teams. Either your a Lions fan, or not. Having said that..... Ford is an absolute insult to my city. From FMC, to the way he handles my team is simply an insult (and YES, it is MY team....us fans buy the tickets, jerseys, hats, and watch on TV.....without us, its a bunch of over grown men playing a game, and NOTHING more). My city is in trouble (again Ford is partially to blame), and we just need "some" hope.....but he cares so little for the city that "made" him, that all he gives us is 0-16. Thank You Bill......thanks for everything.

I want one of these jobs!!!! I want millions to suck at what I do! I want to embarass a city, a franchise, a league, get fired, and still make millions. U want to be drafted, smoke dope, suck at my position and make millions. Where can I get a job with Billy C Ford?
Vince Lombardi's Packers won all those championships, and had to work other jobs in the off season.

WE, a Buc Fan, will trade you Jon Gruden (Self proclaimed Offensive Guru) for Rod Marinelli as soon as possible. Mr. Gruden has made a great team average. He holds grudges against his players. If you had Joey Galloway and Antonio Bryant, as long as he doesn't go mental, on the same team and they were healthy ( Both are) wouldn't you play them both. What a nightmare for a Defense. I can name a whole lot of other players he ran off. PLEASE TAKE HIM.

One question, Where are all of our top raft picks from 1998 to now(excluding 2008)? WE HAVE NO TALENT!! The first thing they need to do is build a real O-line and D-line before anything else. Our owner sucks!! SOMEBODY PLEASE TAKE THE KEYS FROM THE OLD MAN!!!
