Parker asked Marinelli, "Do you wish your daughter would have married a better defensive coordinator?"
Here's what Parker wrote after today's game:
Defensive coordinator Joe Barry has been a disaster since being hired two seasons ago. Last year, the Lions had the worst-ranked defense in the league. They hold that honor this season as well.As much as I think Parker is correct on the merits -- Marinelli shouldn't have hired Barry -- I still think it was unprofessional of him to use a press conference to take a pot shot at the Marinelli/Barry family. He should apologize. You just wonder why Barry doesn't make any adjustments to his Tampa 2 defense in the second half. Where are the blitzes to pressure Brees? They never came.
Just like the defense. It never showed up, either.

Parker has nothing to apologize for. Marinelli is a disgrace as a coach. Its pretty obvious none of the panelists understand what is has been like in the state of Michigan, be it in professional football or the state of the economy. Please don't issue a half hearted apologize to this chump.

Normally, bringing up family in a press conference would be completely over the line. However, if you are actually dumb enough to hire your son-in-law as you defensive coordinator, than you deserverve every verbal joust you get. I believe Parker's question was not only perfectly legitimate, but I feel it was pretty tame as opposed to a low blow. In the NFL, it is a win or find a new proffesion. Personally, I wish that this knucklehead got it alot worse. Makes me happy that I am a Steelers fan. The dumbest person we have representing us is usually just a drunk fan.

That's a load of crap. This sob used tv time in order to embarrass and trash Marinelli just to get his 15 minutes of fame. This wasn't in any way responsible reporting. This was blatant arrogance on Parker's part to kick someone in the nuts when they were already down and out. Parker needs to crawl into a hole and eat worms.

As a longtime Chicago Bears fan I can sympathize with the plight that the Lions and their fans find themselves in this season. I think it was in 1971 that the Bears finished 1-13, and I can remember my grandfather and uncle's being very disturbed about that.
The Lions possibly finishing at 0-16 means a lost season for the team and the fans as well. A major restructuring of the team would have to be a priority, this would also include a coaching change as well.
That said I feel compelled to comment on a piece of sleazy commentary by Rob Parker, a member of the Detroit press.
Rod Marinelli may not be the best coach and he possibly could be the worst coach for the Detroit Lions. But I believe he tries on a weekly basis to win on Sunday's. This season to this point that hasn't happened, and if Parker were at least a competent journalist he would at least comment in a professional manner of what he observes on the field.
To that end the Lions have been nothing short of horrific on both sides of the ball, to comment on the play of the Lions and even the performance of the coaching staff would be within the bounds of respectable journalism and just plain old fashioned good taste.
A personal attack against a coach just because one doesn't get the answer that one is fishing for is off target and contrary to the collective well being of the team, the sport, and the media. To insinuate nepotism is one thing, but to add "Don't you wish your daughter married a better defensive coordinator" is a classless utterance by a classless hack. Parker should at the very least be required to issue a public apology to Rod Marinelli and his daughter.

Plain and simple. That idiot reporter crossed the line and his newspaper should immediately fire him. What a gross, egostical person he must be. It is part of the job to criticize a coach, I support. But it is never right to attack a man's family with stupid, boring, idiotic questions.

Just the lastest hatchet job by Parker, its hard to make a 0-15 coach look sympathetic but Rob does it. He is truely a pathetic person.

You people have no idea what it's like being a Lions fan if you think that Marinelli doesn't deserve it.
Every week he stands at the podium and treats the fans/reporters like idiots. He says the same things every single week, "We're going to watch the film/It's on me/It's my fault." You can only take so much. He refuses to show any emotion, or call any of his players out for being disgraces. He also thinks that he deserves to keep his job as head coach. Also, Marinelli handpicked most of the team this year, bringing over Buccaneers rejects that wouldn't even play for most other teams' practice squads..they're starters here.
Rob Parker for President.

This is not the first time Rob Parker has made idiotic comments like this. He crossed the line this year when he made false accusation on Michigan State quarterback this year. Now he does this. This guy at every press conference tries to make himself look good by attacking and trying to trap Marinelli into saying something he is not suppose to say every press conference. He is selfish and egotistical and it may be to time that he gets fired for these repeat offences.

So the coach takes responsibility for his team's performance, doesn't lose his temper, and refuses to publicly trash his players...geez, what a jerk!
Marinelli has failed as a coach, but the Lions have been terrible long before he got here, and will continue to be terrible long after he is fired.
The real problem is the ownership of William Clay Ford. He runs his football team as well as he runs his car company.
The bad news for Detroit is that they can't steal money from the rest of the country to bail out the Lions.

Whoever says this is okay is an idiot. Its a cheap shot at a very classy coach and Rob Parker should be fired immediately. I don't care how bad a team is never should a reporter stoop this low.

I liked to see Rob Parker try and walk in Rod Marinelli's shoes. Do any of you think for one minute that Rod Marinelli is having a good time with this? I think not. Don't judge until you are in that position and above all, don't make offensive comments about a man's family. Shame on you Rob Parker!!!! "Go Bears"

Taking Parker's comments into context, it seems he was making witty and cynical pun on the hapless coach. Marinelli never answered his question on what he thinks of the defense. All he ever says is, "It's on me. I take all of the responsibility." Well if that was the case, then why does he think he still deserves his job? Most of you people commenting probably don't live in the Michigan area and are not Lions fans, because if you were, you would be as angry as Parker. No team has ever gone 0-15. NONE. Except of course the 2008 Detroit Lions coached by none other than Rod Marinelli. And week after week to hear him (Marinelli) say, "This one is on me," is infuriating.
P.S. If this would have happened in New York, it would have been credited to the "tough" New York media.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I AM A GIANTS FAN AND I AM SYMPATHIZING WITH THE LIONS. ROD MARINELLI HAS HELD HIMSELF UP TO A HIGHER STANDARD OF COACHES. THE PLAYERS HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME AND EXCECUTE. THE CONSTANT BLAME OF CAOCHES IS RIDICULOUS. THE LIONS HAVE BEEN BAD FOR A LONG TIME. THIS IS NOT MARINELLIS FAULT AND TO INSULT HIS FAMILY AND THE DECISION HIS DAUGHTER MADE ON A CHOICE OF HUSBAND IS HORRIBLE. MAYBE PARKER SHOULD COACH THE LIONS AND WHEN HE GOES 0-16 A REPORTER SHOULD ASK IF HIS MOTHER IS MAD ABOUT HIS BIRTH.

CDS, William Clay Ford's involvement with the Lions is merely that of a stockholder. He doesn't run the company or even hold a position of power. He retired almost four years ago.

Listen up, I n every sport you have good teams and bad the Lions just happen to be a bad team and have bad coaches. That much we can see. Also I dont think his son-in law should be working for him. Its called nepotism and its not allowed in most job fronts. But there is a line you dont cross and Parker crossed it.. BIG TIME... Why are you going to involve his daughter in a football interview??? Marinelli daughter has nothing to do with the Lions, so why disrespect her like that? Parker owes Marinelli, Joe Barry and Ms. Barry a apology... dont get personal when reporting on football issues... Might get you slapped up one day... IDIOT!!!!!
