NFL.com's Live Look-In Feature Fails Again

Text Size A A A

A couple of weeks ago, I took part in a clockwork orange-like experiment, trying out NFL.com's live look-in feature to see if it was a suitable replacement for football fans around the country that don't have the luxury of just flipping on the NFL Network.

As one would expect, it was a tremendous failure in every way possible.

During the first quarter of Saturday's Cowboys-Ravens game, I decided to give it another run to see if, maybe, my first experience was a fluke. It was not. The feature, once it loaded, still made my computer sound like it was about to self destruct at any moment, while my browser froze like a Duluth winter.

Later in the evening, a commenter in the Saturday Night Live Chat pointed out that the feature would not load at all due to a high demand. Curious, I attempted to subject my computer to the torture that is NFL.com and was greeted with a black screen displaying the following message: Due to overwhelming demand streaming video is not available at the present time.

Tremendous.

I have no idea why there would be such an overwhelming demand to watch snapshots of an NFL game, in between studio segments of guys in suits talking to one another about the game we could be watching, as opposed to just watching the game on an actual TV, but, hark, here we are. Wait. What's that? Millions of Americans don't have access to the NFL Network? Oh. Right. That little problem.

Welcome to Roger Goodell's NFL, where millions upon millions upon millions of football fans have no access to one of the biggest games of the NFL regular season from the comfort of their own homes.
