A couple of weeks ago, I took part in a clockwork orange-like experiment, trying out NFL.com's live look-in feature to see if it was a suitable replacement for football fans around the country that don't have the luxury of just flipping on the NFL Network.
As one would expect, it was a tremendous failure in every way possible.
During the first quarter of Saturday's Cowboys-Ravens game, I decided to give it another run to see if, maybe, my first experience was a fluke. It was not. The feature, once it loaded, still made my computer sound like it was about to self destruct at any moment, while my browser froze like a Duluth winter.
Later in the evening, a commenter in the Saturday Night Live Chat pointed out that the feature would not load at all due to a high demand. Curious, I attempted to subject my computer to the torture that is NFL.com and was greeted with a black screen displaying the following message: Due to overwhelming demand streaming video is not available at the present time.
Tremendous.
I have no idea why there would be such an overwhelming demand to watch snapshots of an NFL game, in between studio segments of guys in suits talking to one another about the game we could be watching, as opposed to just watching the game on an actual TV, but, hark, here we are. Wait. What's that? Millions of Americans don't have access to the NFL Network? Oh. Right. That little problem.
Welcome to Roger Goodell's NFL, where millions upon millions upon millions of football fans have no access to one of the biggest games of the NFL regular season from the comfort of their own homes.

It's so stupid. I wouldn't even mind not being able to see these games on TV if they just put up a decent stream on nfl.com. I had to watch my Colts win a playoff spot Thursday night via a friends webcam because after the first drive they just cut to these guys talking in the studio forever. Thats not what I want to see, I just simply want to see you know, that football thing.

That may be the true sign that NFL.com has a problem. A guy can watch a buddies webcam online better than nfl.com.

How do I get on ADD? If that's what makes NFL.com work, count me in!

On NfL.com there is a box you can check to see if you can get the NFL Channel. When I checked, the answer was that Charter Cable is denying me the opportunity to watch the game.
This is pure and utter bullsh*t! The NFL is responsible for seeing to it that every fan who wants to watch the game can.
But don't worry, Roger. Earlier this year I really missed not seeing the NFL channel games, but as the year wore on it got easier to take and now I could care less unless the Giants are on, in which case I will listen to audio on Giants.com. They do a much better job than the idiotic garbage laden stream NFL.com provides.
Congratulations Roger. this whole issue is blowing up in your face. Pretty soon advertisers will also lose interest.
