Braylon Edwards Thinks Browns Fans Don't Like Him Because He's a Wolverine

During the Browns' 30-10 loss in Philadelphia on Monday night, wide receiver Braylon Edwards hauled in five passes for 102 yards, in what was probably his second best game of the season. A season that has to be considered a disappointment, to say the least, for Edwards and his teammates. He's not going to come close to the numbers he put up a season ago, and the Browns will probably be happy if they can finish this season with five wins.

Naturally, the loyal fans of Cleveland are a little testy when it comes to their football team these days, and Edwards, along with Romeo Crennel and general manager Phil Savage, are feeling the type anger that can only come from a grown man dressed like an English bulldog.

But, if you ask Edwards why he's facing a large dose of criticism, it's because he attended the University of Michigan, arch-rival of the Ohio State. Yeah. That's it, Braylon. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact you've caught only 38 percent of the passes thrown your direction this season. Bud Shaw of the Cleveland Plain Dealer has the story.
"It is what it is ... I've learned since being here that I'm very unappreciated. Not by the organization, just in the eyes of the fans and the city. Since Day One, I've been a marked man coming from Michigan. It's just gone that way."
Edwards continued to say that he could care less about the fans and media, and is only interested in doing his job, which is catching footballs. You can insert your own joke.

Shaw, by the way, like any sensible person would do considering the comments, thinks Edwards is misguided in his "they hate me because I'm from Michigan" point of view. And he's absolutely right.

While I can't speak for the fans of Cleveland, I have a sneaking suspicion that Browns fans would accept him -- or any player -- regardless of where they came from if they produced on the field. Consider the fact the most talked about replacement for Crennel, and the man at the top of every wish-list for Browns fans, is former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, a man that routinely handed the Cleveland Browns their lunch twice a year -- sometimes three times a year -- every year.

They haven't accepted you, Braylon, because you can't catch the football, not because you went to Michigan. If the Browns traded for Tom Brady this offseason -- he went to Michigan, you know -- are you telling me Browns fans wouldn't accept him? Hell, they would probably drive to Boston and personally chauffeur him to Cleveland.

On the plus side, at least Edwards hasn't started e-mailing fans yet.
