It was 21-0 before an eye was even blinked. The Arizona Cardinals, fresh off clinching their first division title in ages, had the chance to prove they belonged in the playoffs as more than the beneficiary of a pathetic division. They failed miserably. In fact, they embarrassed themselves in the first quarter.
Offensively, they just couldn't get anything going until it was too late. They still only ended up scoring one offensive touchdown against a normally vulnerable Minnesota secondary. Kurt Warner ended up throwing for 270 yards, but an early interception and generally looking awful in the first half pretty much eliminated his chances at an MVP season.
The implications of this game for Arizona aren't huge on the surface, but their confidence surely has to be shaken. The only quality team they've defeated all season is the Dallas Cowboys, who aren't near as strong as they were once thought to be.
For the Vikings, this was a huge victory for them, as they now have a commanding grasp on the NFC North. Because of advantageous tiebreakers over the Bears, they'd have to lose their last two games while the Bears won their two in order to not make the playoffs.
The number of Vikings players who starred is quite large. Adrian Peterson carried the offense with 165 yards on 28 carries, while Tarvaris Jackson threw four touchdown passes. Yes, seriously. Four. Bernard Berrian caught a 41 yard touchdown and took a punt 82 yards for the score. Jared Allen had two sacks, Cedric Griffin made a pivotal first quarter interception, and the defensive front generally harassed the Cardinals all day long.
They get to stay home for the next two weeks, facing the Falcons and Giants. Again, one win is gonna sew this thing up for them, and if they play the way they did today, it will be rather easy.
For the Cardinals, it doesn't get any easier. They head to New England, and we know how poorly they play in the East. At least they get to close with Seattle at home in what should be a morale boosting victory before hosting their first home playoff game ever in Arizona.

Even with the Cards locking up their spot in the playoffs todays game shows they care very little what seat in the wildcard that they play. They need to play every game like it means the end to their season.Sloppy plays by high paid player is uncalled for and brings talk that the Cards are over rated. So many games lost came from time management to bone head plays that bring this team down. This team needs to finish 10 and 6 no less , cause if they play with no heart like today they will drop the first playoff game they play.Need to show you belong with the other teams that make it to the next step. Cards need to play like a team that won their division yet today they look like a team that is over rated.I have always suported the Big Red yet the way they play outside their division they look bad. These high paid players can,t do even high school level tackleing instead arm tackle and not wrapping up the runners, and time management a big issue. When down 21 points its time to do the 2 min drill when ever you have the ball cause that is the difference in this game and the other games that they have lost. This type of playing makes people think the Cards are over rated and outside their division can,t beat anyone. They keep playing this way they will drop the first playoff game cause it will be someone other then someone in their division and it seems those they can,t beat.Cloyd

I cannot believe how the Cardinals fans are only fair weather fans. Shame on them for not backing their team win or lose. It's no wonder the Cardinals never win! I myself am a Cowboys fan, win or lose, I still proudly wear my Cowboys shirts. As soon as the Cardinals don't win a game, the fans are vicious. Learn how to be a real fan why don't ya!!

I saw what you said about fair weather fans and sorry I must disgree those of ous that have been with our teams sence day one (1962) we have the right to say what we see is a issue with the team. When players make the money they make bone head mistakes that hurt the team is not something we true fans can,t let go without saying something.Remember those high tickets are what pays some of these bone heads that week after week keep doing the same mistakes. The Cards record should be 10 and 4 not 8 and 6.You saying you are a Cowboy fan whell I have a brother in law that is a die hard Cowboy yet like most 100% fans of their team will get upset when their teams gives a game away caused by mistake after mistakes that hurts the team .A team is not made up of just one player but many great players yet their are that 10% who think only of themselves and to them it is mony and not the love of the game.No fair weather fans we are not true fans we are.Cloyd
