During yesterday's live chat, we spent much of the hour talking about the likelihood Tim Tebow would play quarterback in the NFL. The consensus was "no way in hell," and most of us figured the big-boned Florida Gator for a tight end. Well, Mel Kiper's hair agrees. Appearing yesterday on the virtually unlistenable Mike and Mike in the Morning, Kiper offered this assessment (via MDS at CFT):
Kiper said ... that Tebow is likely to play tight end when he enters the NFL in 2010.Of course, as Toni Monkovic of The Fifth Down points out, projecting quarterbacks is a tricky proposition, and for every success story -- first-round pick (Matt Ryan) or late-round surprise (Tom Brady) -- there's a growing scrap heap of "can't-miss" prospects (Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, MITTENS, anybody from the '99 draft not named Donovan McNabb).
"I think an H-back, tight end projection, like we've had quarterbacks move to wide receiver in the past," Kiper said. "That's what I think he will be. ... (Tebow) can have a very successful career in the NFL, but not at quarterback."
But, hey, maybe Tebow really can run a pro-style offense, even if the evidence currently suggests otherwise. I'm skeptical, but I'm a blogger, so what do I know? It's just that every time I see Tebow I see Eric Crouch in one of those funhouse fat mirrors. That's not a compliment.

I'll admit that other than maybe Rex Grossman, Florida's QBs haven't made an impression in the NFL. But....so far...Tebow has proven to a man of determination and great will, making him an outstanding leader on & off the field. There's nothing that he sets his mind to that he hasn't accomplished either as an individual or as a team.
Tebow moved high schools to play QB, mission accomplished. He was heavily recruited by 80 colleges and now plays QB for the University of Florida...check mark...done! His dream is to play QB in the NFL and I believe he can and if he wants it bad enough, he will.
So what will you doubters do or say when he proves you wrong and makes it to the NFL as QB?? I hope he does...God Bless
Hey Debra, you forgot about Shane Matthews. I know career back up, but twice NFC offensive player of the week ( back with the Bears) when he did get a chance to start. Maybe the best QB
from Florida.
Who cares about the NFL this is college football played with the heart and not for a paycheck! NFL sucks!
I like this blogger...Tebow as a NFL tight end and Mike and Mike as "virtually unlistenable." Bravo.
i think mel kiper doesnt know as much as he trys to make people think hes does and as for todd mcshay on espn hes an idiot never listen to that guy. tim tebow has all the tools for a qb a strong arm, playing top competition, prototypical size, and even has solid running skills, his production as a passer is way better than that of matthew stafford who has played like crap. here a thought tebow has just as many passes for td a better completion percentage and only 9 interceptions his whole career as a passer all of which is better than stafford who also has moreno as a running back whos tebows running back again!!!
