Earlier, my superbly awesome colleague Will Brinson offered up some rumors about Romeo Crennel's future, which obviously will no longer include being the Browns' head coach. After all, we are fully aware that he is to blame for the Browns' myriad of injuries, as well as Braylon Edwards' inability to catch a football. You're bound to hear interesting rumors at this time of year, as we get closer and closer to the NFL coaching "silly season" (apologies to NASCAR for use of their term there). Sunday's juiciest nugget came from ESPN's Chris Mortensen. He reported that the Browns have their eye on a familiar face to take over the team after they fire Crennel.
Yeah, that guy.
Obviously, the speculation continues to swirl around Bill Cowher making a return to coaching with the Browns. However, Mort says the Browns aren't stupid. They know it's not a mortal lock that Cowher will want to coach again. Clearly, they want an experienced coach.
Hopefully, if they go the way of Marty Schottenheimer, they let him hire his own staff. I'm not a big fan of retread coaches. Marty's regular-season record is amazing, and his playoff meltdown in San Diego was gripping. I understand he has experience, but how many chances is he going to get to prove he's not what we all think he is?
(By the way, major props to our boy Michael David Smith, who called for this move in February of 2007. Simply amazing.)

Marty is exactly the right choice for a struggling franchise to learn how to win in the regular season again... The Storied Browns have not been a real team since their returned to the field of dreams in Cleveland, but with Martys no nonsense approach, the flood of lazy free agent players expecting a free paycheck for no effort will end quicker then the govt bailout fever. At 47, I totally trust Marty to turn it around and get us going in the right direction.... remember babies must learn to walk before they can run. Plus there's always that great speculation, that a coach who couldn't win a big game, and a team that can't get to the big game, could end both their droughts together. Marty loves Cleveland and we love Marty. Could you imagine Cleveland winning it all in Scottenheimers last hurrah... wouldn't that be like witnessing the ultimate Cinderella fitting of a long awaited Championship. My only problem with this decision was Randy Lerner couldve made this switch early in the season when he knew his current Coach was inept... we fans don't give a hoot if Crennel is a great guy or if his lazy, undisciplined players enjoy his surroundings... why wouldn't they enjoy playing for him and getting paid for being busts.... if Scotteinhemer gets the gig I can tell you one thing, the linebackers will make a quick exit stage tunnel left, followed by the Wimpley Kamerons of the team. under Marty Ball you will bleed orange and brown or you will be on the curb with the weekly trash.... and Pittsburgh... he understands the rival so you'd be on notice to stop getting free winning gift certificates from Cleveland teams.

Marty is the man. How many playoff games have the Browns been in since Marty's first departure? Two? In ten years! The Browns have been a disaster since he left. Hello FEMA. Give him the reigns. At least some optimism will return. I can then dust off my Browns apparel and not get laughed at. Marty did not fumble at the four yard line.

Pretty easy for you to sit behind your computer and call someon a pu$$y..Takes a lot of guts. You certainley aren't a Browns fan. Marty is just what this team needs. In three years a championship, he moves to the front office and then bring in Cowher. Now we're talking.
