The 0-11 Lions have many believing that a winless season is not only possible, but probable. This is 0for08, FanHouse's eye on the Detroit Lions and their quest for a winless season.Jared Allen just left the field of play against the Detroit Lions after getting injured on a cheap block. This would be surprising, if you totally didn't believe in karma. In case you do -- and I'm right here with you -- then Allen's injury is, while deplorable in a morally questionable sense -- kind of okay.
No, seriously. Why should you be allowed to take a blatantly cheap shot on Matt Schaub and not expect some sort of universal retribution? Well, he got it on a cheap shot by Gosder Cherilius and, fortunately, MDS was on the clock at PFT to provide play-by-play (he's a tortured Lions fan, in case you didn't know).
In the second quarter of today's game, Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper was rolling to his right, and Vikings defensive end Jared Allen was running across the field in pursuit, but not particularly close to the play. When Lions offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus (who on the ground) saw Allen passing by, he lowered his shoulder and took Allen out at the knee. From what I saw, Allen was limping pretty badly, but he did come back on the field fairly quickly (just a few plays). And yeah, while I think karma is important in these types of things, I should also point out that what Cherilus did to Allen was totally uncalled for and the absolute definition of "dirty."
Allen was hurt, and he was furious. He tried to limp toward Cherilus to confront him, but he was restrained by teammates. After that he was taken off the field with an apparent knee injury.
Additionally, Tavaris Jackson is now playing quarterback (well, taking knees) for the Vikings because Gus Frerotte is injured, as is Chad Greenway.
And in even more crazy news, the Detroit Lions continue to lead the Vikings at halftime. Stay tuned for the latest installment of Meltdown City.

Karma!? are you kidding!? he's one of the FEW NFL players who cares about not only his paycheck but how well he does in the game, he puts 100% into every play. NFL players may be actually worth what they get paid if they performed like Jared Allen. Allen got HIT by a cheap shot, he wasn't DELIVERING one.

What goes around comes around. And by the way, if Allen was not white nobody would even know his name.

Brinson wasn't talking about this particular game. The karma is for Allen being a dirty player all season, including twice low on Matt Schaub -- which sidelined him for four weeks.
Playing hard doesn't negate being a dirty player, and Allen's a dirty player. He's been fined $90K this year for God's sake.
What goes around comes around.

Ken -- That last sentence is downright absurd. Allen led the NFL in sacks last season. This is 2008, not 1958. No one cares about color when judging athletes.

Well, at least his designated driver is there to help him into and out of the car.

At least Allens' hits weren't belligerent. If anything, it looked like he was attempting to wrap up Schaub's legs, not hit his knees. You can't expect the guy to stop in his tracks.
Gosder Cherilus, (already on the ground) saw Allen coming and put his helmet to Allen's knee. Allen knew it was on purpose, and so did the announcers. The dirty playing Lions were being penalized for low blocks throughout that entire game.
P.S- Jared Allen went on to get 2 sacks, hmm karma huh?

Greatest play of the WEEKEND!
If I had the guys number of email I would've hit him up right after the play and a big THANK YOU message.
Jared Allen is dirty and he finally got a taste of what was coming to him.
Three deliberate dirty hits on Schaub that took him out for 4 weeks and he can't he handle one.
He should've hit Allen is his knee harder.

Never knew you could wrap someone up leading with your shoulder into there knee. You speak as if you know him.
Your probably one of the many people who watched "highlights" of the game instead of the actual game and only saw 2 of the 3 attempted cheap shots.
If you guys were in fact right he wouldn't have gotten fined 50k for that game and then another 25k the next game.
He did his job...took out the QB and they one.

My only questions are: Was the block illegal (i.e. a crackback) and was Allen still involved in the play (i.e.pursuing the QB) From what I saw it was a legal block and he was still involved in the play. In football (as in boxing) the players should protect themselves at ALL times. Furthermore, Mr. Allen has been fined $90,000 so far this year for cheap (an ILLEGAL) shots by the NFL. He is in no position to complain about a possibly cheap but ultimately LEGAL hit!! People who live in glass houses.....
