Desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess. Earlier this week, New England welcomed back an old friend in linebacker Rosevelt Colvin, presumably to help fill the void left by outside linebackers Adalius Thomas and Pierre Woods who have been lost to injury. Thomas, if you'll recall, suffered a broken arm a few weeks ago, while Woods had an early exit from Sunday's game against Pittsburgh. Still feeling like they're shorthanded at the linebacker position, the Patriots have another old friend (emphasis on old) in Foxborough today, as soon-to-be-40-year old Junior Seau is in the house, possibly to sign a deal to suit back up for New England. Awesome. I guess Jack Lambert or Dick Butkus weren't available?
From Christopher L. Gasper of the Boston Globe:
"I don't think the contract will be an issue," said Demoff. "If Junior is there and nothing is different from what they thought last night, I would suspect they'd do a contract, and he'd be a Patriot tomorrow. I don't think any promises were made to Junior or by Junior to them before he got on the plane."Earlier in the evening, Mike Reiss reported that Seau was only interested in playing for New England this season to "finish what we didn't finish last year." That's all well and good, but he's going to be 40! If nothing else, the Patriots are at least well on their way to reassembling the oldest linebacker unit ever.

Assemble all you punks including the author of this sorry article and put them in a room with Jr and lets see how much "old man" garbage you'd be spouting.
I'm no fan of the Patriots but Jr's always been a class act and wouldn't put the pads on just for the paycheck.
You guys badmouthing him are just classless.

More power to him if he can do it. Son't forget, George Blanda actually quarterbacked the Raiders in a game at age 48 once when Plunkett was hurt! Besides, isn't 40 the new 30? LOL

I am 43 and I know I could still knock most of the young guys I know on their backsides. Put me in a room with some youngbuck and I will show you. Most youngbucks today lack backbone. I have been playing football since 1973 when I was 7 y.o.

I think the Uncle Rico's in here are too quick to draw comparisons between their Adult Rec League exploits and Seau's return to the NFL...this thread is beginning to smell like Theragesic.
That said, if Junior's in shape to come back, good for him. As for him being a "class-act," the guy used to be one of the most selfish pile-jumpers in the league. Anybody remember the time against Seattle when he tried to wrestle a TD fumble recovery away from Shaun Gayle - his own teammate? Say what you will about the Pats, but they whipped that freelancing attitude right off him.

Don't disrespect Jr. That's not cool. I love that guy and I know he was a huge inspiration to the Patriots players last year. I wish he had always been with the Pats. Everyone wants to diss the veteran players and call them old, but thank god for the veterans on this team, they are the only reason the Pats are not out of the playoffs. Plus, what they teach the rookies is invaluable. Of course 17 players have been lost to IR and there are many others that have been unable to play more than a quarter here and there. Thanks to Jr for wanting to help, but we may be past the point of no return as far as overcoming the loss of players. I just hope he does not get hurt trying to help us out.

as ancient as his age would seem for most pro athletes, Jr's a class act that'll not embarrass, but most likely, only enhance NE's run down the final stretch of the season .
