Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, I guess, knows everything first. Here's his scoop on Plaxico Burress:The New York Giants wide receiver accidentally shot himself in the leg on Friday night, FOXSports.com has learned, not long after being ruled out of Sunday's game against the Redskins with a hamstring injury.I'm not sure if Glazer is suggesting anything by the timing of the shooting. Burress spent the evening in the hospital and his injuries are not supposed to be life threatening.
Plaxico Burress is an amazingly talented player, but when you are having the sort of season where you are receiving unsolicited advice from Lawrence Taylor, there may be some really strange things going on in your life. Burress accidentally shooting himself in the leg is messed up even by LT standards.
We will update this story when more information comes available. Given that he plays in New York, I'm guessing there will be all sorts of news soonishly. For example, since I started typing this, John Clayton of ESPN says that Burress received an accidental gunshot in a club.
UPDATE: According to reports, Burress' leg was grazed by the bullet, and he should be able to return this season.
The Plaxico Burress Saga
David Tyree had the highlight reel catch of Super Bowl XLII, but Plaxico Burress had the game-winner. Eli Manning found Burress in the end zone for the championship-clinching catch - easily Burress' greatest moment as a pro. Click through to see how things have gone wrong since then.

Unhappy with his contract situation, Burress skipped the Giants' mandatory summer mini-camp and then sat out much of the preseason with an ankle injury. Finally, shortly before the start of the regular season, the Giants agreed to a five-year, $35-million contract extension with the disgruntled receiver.

No mandatory mini-camp, no preseason, no problem. In New York's Week 1 win over Washington, Plaxico made 10 catches for 133 yards.

In a stunning Week 6 Monday night loss to Cleveland, Burress scored a touchdown but was otherwise shut down - part of a subpar season that has seen Burress fail to top 100 yards in any game other than the opener.

Burress had a bit of a meltdown in the Giants' Oct. 19 win over San Francisco. The NFL fined Burress $45,000 for his actions in that game, when he verbally abused an official and threw a ball into the stands. That came just two weeks after the Giants suspended Burress for their Oct. 5 game for missing a team meeting.

Two weeks ago, in an easy New York win over Baltimore, Burress tweaked his hamstring. It was that injury that was going to sideline him against Washington in Week 13 anyway.

The latest Burress moment: Reportedly out at a club on Friday night, just hours after news broke that he would be inactive on Sunday because of his hamstring injury, Burress suffered a gunshot wound to his leg - allegedly self-inflicted and by accident.

Dear Plaxico
Time to grow up. You've got the world by the short and curlies. You might want to take your millions and live like a respectable human. Guns aren't toys and bullets don't care what they hit. The next one could hit something more important the the legs you've built a career on.
Mortality is the great equalizer. Stop being a 7 sigma waste of humanity and start being a real man. Grow up.

Hixon may start, but you can bet that the majority of the balls in key situations will go to Amani Toomer and Steve Smith.

What? This man has a message. He doesn't want to play for the Giants anymore and he hates criticism. Thinking of Plaxico and a gun is scary. This guy needs to go help out the Lions.

...Really? Are you serious? Leave the team you run a Super Bowl ring with and go to a team 5 years away from the postseason at best?
Well, if he does that, it won't be the first time he's shot himself in the foot.

I wish I could say I'm surprised but it's actually quite common for gangstas and wanna-bes to shoot themselves in the inner-thigh in clubs in NYC while shoving their loaded firearms in their waistbands.

I am glad he will be OK, but it is time for him to go. Out clubbing instead of rehabbing does not sound like a committed player to me. Thanks for your help in getting the ring last year, but GOOD-BYE PLAX!

Plaxico Burress! Another egotistical Wide Re-Asshole with talent who just can't seem to get his act right. Since he happens to be on the same team as Eli Manning who I hate (I hate Peyton too), I guess it's alright if he's a screw up. It's just getting pathetic with my brothers who just can't seem to act like Jerry Rice, Marcus Allen and Barry Sanders once did. The sign of the times is definitely going down the toilet with characters like Burress & Chad Johnson representing the Black professional athlete with so much ignorant dignity. Get a Gripe my brothers!

Plax has some personal problems this year. No one knows what happened yet, so why don't we hold back judgements and stop making more of story we know nothing about. With that said we all know if Plax goes down road of so many others in the NFL and becomes a walking nightmare we know Jerry Jones will be first in line with the biggest pay check for Plax to get him to play in Dallas for his Cowgirls. We know if your a thug than Good Old Boy Jerry wants you on his team.
Go Giants. Get well Plax.
