This is a story that is sure to make you shake your head.According to a report by WBAY in Green Bay, Donald Driver's father was taken to an intensive care unit in Houston after claiming he was beaten by police officers who arrested him on outstanding traffic tickets.
Marvin Driver Jr. (not pictured), father of the Packers wide receiver, was apparently picked up this weekend by officers outside a Valero station and ended up at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center, where he is in good condition but is still hooked up to a ventilator after he claimed he was "elbowed in the throat" and forced to swallow a pill.
"Supposedly he was being elbowed in the throat," family spokesman Quanell X said. "He motioned like this with his arm that he was being elbowed to the throat and said they were kneeing him a lot."So far, nothing has been done about the officers in question and Driver himself has yet to speak to the media, although he did skip practice yesterday because of a family matter.
"Marvin Driver writes that they took him, picked him up behind a Valero station by a dark road where he was beaten," Quanell X said.Marvin says three Houston police officers -- one he says he knew -- kicked and beat him, then forced him to swallow a pill.
"Told him to 'Swallow this, you're going to see Jesus," Quanell alleged.
The Driver family is in an uproar because of all this, none more than Michael, the brother of Donald and son of Marvin.
"I just want to say that my father is a good, heart-warming person, arms open, and once again the officers that did this are no better than the officers behind bars," Michael said.Since nothing has been charged and nobody has been arrested or suspended, all of this is just speculation right now. The Houston police chief has come out and said that there will be a "transparent" investigation of the officers in question, saying whatever comes up will be shared with the public.
"These are the same people that swore under oath to protect and serve, and if we can't trust these people, who can we trust?"
"Our intention is to be very transparent, whether we are correct or incorrect, and anything that happened in the organization we are sharing with media," Chief Harold Hurtt said.Luckily for Donald, Green Bay doesn't play until Monday, where they take on New Orleans, just east of Houston.

This is a sad, sad story, no matter what the truth is. The fact that Mr. Driver has a checkered past (spent years in prison) prevents me from immediately believing his story. Whether Mr. Driver's story is vindicated in the end, this is an ugly, pathetic situation.

Hey iconkiller,
Yeah, you're right, let's trust the gangsters, and those damn cops better play by every single rule or those law-abiding gangster's rights will be infinged upon! Hey, that's fair! If I'm not a sworn public servant, I don't have to play by any rules. Now that's what you call personal responsibility! With this idea, our whole country will soon be a utopia. I can't wait! Who says you can't have freedom without personal responsibility? I don't know for sure, but let's find them and kick their ass, maybe steal their wallet too.

Mr. Marvin Driver is a piece of C--- and a liar. Checkered past with a history of bad. We need to stop coddling these bad guys. Once you take someone else's rights away from them during a crime you lose your own right to walk among us. Human rights retards have contributed to this countries downward spiral... Give the criminal rights and forget about the victims. He is looking for some quick cash... he is a Loser...

Regardless of anyones past history, the police have taken an oath to protect and serve the people. I may not believe the entire story that Mr. Driver provides, however I do believe that he was beat by these 3 officers and they should be off the streets until the investigation is completed. What kind of world do we live in? We allow people to beat others and put them in a hospital, but that's okay because they had a past....what about the police that beat him? I would like to see where it gives them permission to beat on other people. Especially 3 against one. It makes them criminals too!

That's the whole point, JStol. We don't know whether it's true that three policy officers beat him up. The fact that the person alleging this is a convict casts further doubt on the story. If it's confirmed that it happened as Mr. Driver said, then yes, it's disgusting and these three cops are a disgrace.
But when the only witness to a situation is a convict, I'm not willing to take his word alone.

We all need to shut up until we hear all of the details. There will certainly be a court case, or two, that will give us both sides of the story. Until then, reserve judgement.

Perhaps you are the most right in all of these comments. Nevertheless, we are all innocent until proven guilty, and this does include even ex-cons and those with outstanding traffic tickets. I don't think forcing someone to take a pill that would make you "see Jesus" is even a likely story for anyone to make up, even during durress. Houston is known for some bad cops, and if anyone has been at the hands of bad cops sticks, they know that when you are on the wrong side of the law, frequently no one can see you scream, and few believe you over the cops. This is a reality, only in certain lucky situations people do have video cameras to see the Rodney Kings out there.

I KNOW SOME COPS CAN BE REALLY CROOKED, BUT THE DETAILS OF THIS STORY ARE REALLY WEIRD. THE COMMENT THEY MADE, THEY MADE HIM SWALLOW A PILL? GLAD I DON'T TRAVEL TO HOUSTON MUCH.

Are an F**cken corrupt cop? A racist? In my opinion you are not normal! Are you trying to say that if you were convicted of any crime in your life a cop can beat you up? Get a grip! We do not know what really happened but we do know, this Mr. Driver was arrested for outstanding warrents and after arriving at the jail he needed to be transported to a local hospital for injuries. I normally do not respond to blogs but you are way out of line.

The police are not the jury. No one deserves this kind of treatment, regardless of his "checkered past". This happens too often, because the police, for the most part, are never punished.

FYI--In most police departments these days, officers are punished for abusing their badges. There are of course crooked police officers and corrupt departments, but MOST officers take their oath very seriously. Its ridiculous that when something like this happens (which is disgusting if its true), people want to throw stones at all cops. Who do you call though when you need them? The cops. Give me a break. Cops are underpaid, understaffed, and underprotected. A few cops are scumbags, and in most cases, they pay for it.

How does a guy somehow get a major brain hemmorage, has the ability to speak taken away and possibly a fractured trachea all during a ride to the county jail. The HPD commissioner somehow sounds like he is praising the officers for saving his life bc they acted swiftly in noticing that he was unresponsive when they arrived at the county jail. I'm sorry, I think there is some credence to his allegations just in the simple fact that this guy is coming in and out of consciousness and writing on paper towels in explicit detail of what these officers did to him, which is backed my a medical diagnosis. Hell, that must be some car ride to incur those injuries. Does that even happen to NASCAR drivers during their races?? Wow
