Tom Brady, according to all the sideline reporting I've seen, hasn't been hitting up many team practices this year. It's not that he isn't a team player, if I understand correctly, it's just that, well, his knee kind of hurts and he does not really care to spend time watching his teammates do what he can't. But, when Matt Cassel decided that he was gonna get all Pro-Bowly on the Jets last Thursday and throw for three touchdowns and 400 yards, rumor has it that he freaked out, ditched his crutches and started stepping up his recovery.*
*Okay, not really. All he's doing here is walking without crutches outside his New York City (cue Pace salsa jokes) apartment. The really good news for him is that people still care enough to squat outside his place with video cameras. Oh, and that Cassel is going to get overpaid by someone else next year when he comes back.

It must be killing Tom not to be on the field. We all know that he must have turned down plenty of opps from Madison Ave.He's not like that--outside money and t.v. Beneath the radar and helping behind the scenes is what makes him a true pro and team player.Anyone who thinks that he wants Cassel to fail is wrong. He does not forget wher he came from. The Pats will rally behind Tom Terrific and all the other injured starters to show it's not just about THEM.

It is unfortunate when one player's golden opportunity comes at the expense of an injured player. It isn't that different from when Tom took over for Drew. Even though Drew was never at Tom's level, he was a #1 overall pick who had led the Pats to the Super Bowl and was loved and respected by Patriots fans. Now it's Matt's turn. He has a chance to take the team over, especially if Tom's knee doesn't make a full recovery by next season. He wasn't spectacular in his first few starts, but neither was Tom when he replaced Drew. No one expects 400 yards a game from Matt, but he clearly has talent and is making the most of a great opportunity. If he does go to another team next year, I expect him to be a starter, and to be well paid - not overpaid. As far as Tom is concerned, I hope he is able to play again, because I love watching him play, but I won't feel too sorry for him if he can't come back. He is incredibly rich, and he would go out at the top of his game.
