There were few bright spots for the Redskins in last night's home loss to the Cowboys (DeAngelo Hall intercepting Brad Johnson-like passes aside), and it's still hard to gauge exactly what the team has in quarterback Jason Campbell.
A few weeks ago, ESPN's Ron Jaworski called Campbell his midseason MVP, but the fourth-year quarterback has had two uninspired efforts in consecutive games. It's not completely his fault; the offensive line is a joke, Clinton Portis is banged up, and the pass catchers, save Chris Cooley, have gone missing for long stretches.
Which is why Campbell may have decided just to take things into his own hands. Midway through the second quarter with Washington holding a 7-0 lead, Campbell scrambled for 22 yards on third-and-eight. The Redskins would have to punt four plays later, and the Cowboys would tie the score seven plays after that, but that's beside the point. That Campbell steamrolled Dallas safety Pat Watkins into oblivion, that's the point.
Sure, it didn't have any bearing on the final score, but it sure had to be embarrassing for Watkins.
I have this vision of Campbell coming to the sidelines, finding Shaun Alexander, and very politely explaining, "see, that's how you run the ball."
UPDATE: via DMN Cowboys Blog: Watkins said he thought Campbell was going to slide, so he put his head down but Campbell ran him over. "Last time I do that," Watkins said.
Well pretty stupid comment considering we have not see Alexander in the open field yet. and how soon we forget last week when Alexander ran through 3 guys to get 4 yards when there was no place to go. But hey why let the truth get in the way of a good lie.
well maybe unless alexander played with you and your little friends in a pick up game, cause most of the team was outta washington on their bye...close but no cigar
Aside from Clinton Portis and Chris Cooley, everyone else on the offensive side of the ball shows up part of the time. As a Cowboy fan, I can respect the defense Washington has but that's it. Campbell is an ok player but will never be a franchise player....
Campbell will be a franchise player, he has more guts and poise than the sorry QBs in the NFC east, and shows much more promise than any other NFC east QB. Romo? Give me a break, the sooner everybody stops this love affair with the Cowboys the sooner everyone will realize that their D isn't all that and their offense with Romo could only score 14 against Washington, along with 2 interceptions. Tell me now who isn't going to be a franchise QB in 3 years...his first name starts with a T.
...now obviously this does nothing about the still pitiful stat that the Redskins can't score touchdowns...it hurts deep inside...
A smart QB doesn't have to run over a safety. He just has to pass around him. Now I know Romo has lots to prove, like finally win a play-off game, but there is tons of up side there....
Two things: 1. Burnett was bracing Campbell from behind and that gave him more momentum, it's hard for a safety to stand up against the weight of a QB and LB. 2. @Drew- Romo may not be the typical Brady/PManning type of pocket QB but he does make some good plays. His decisions are poor sometimes which leading to most of his interceptions, but he is still obviously better than Campbell. That's not really a debate.
Drew, you obviously know absolutely nothing about pro football if you think Cambell is better than Romo. Campbell is worthless and got killed every time he dropped back. And guess who was putting hits on him; the Defense that isn't "all that". Another thing; the Cowboys scored 14 points DESPITE 2 interceptions, WITH Romo's broken little finger. Enough said...
Wow you thought of that all by your self. So it was 2 weeks ago the point was still made, Alexadner still had the carry and still carried guys to do it.
Okay, so Campbell has a few bad games and all of the sudden he sucks? Everyone easily forgets that this is Campbells first year in the west coast offense! And so far he has done a pretty darn good job!

I'd like to see Romo even attempt to run over one of the redskins safeties.
