Vince Young Probably Still Wonders How He Lost His Job to Kerry Collins

The 2008 Titans are Kerry Collins' team. Despite Vince Young starting the season, and that the club drafted him third overall in 2006, it's been Collins, the well-traveled 14-year veteran, who is largely responsible for Tennessee's success.

And although Young is completely recovered from an early-season knee injury that paved the way for Collins to earn the job, the third-year quarterback isn't exactly taking advantage of the opportunity to learn by watching. At least that's the perception, anyway.
[F]ans and those in the media keep noticing Young's conduct and body language on the sideline during games. He seems detached. He participates in pregame warm-ups then appears to retreat into his own little world after kickoff.

When the offense comes off the field, you see starter Kerry Collins huddling with offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger as they examine photos of the opposing defense that are transmitted from the press box to the sideline. No. 3 quarterback Chris Simms is an interested participant.

Young? He's usually found several steps away, uninvolved. He either doesn't want to be part of the process or is not invited. And I seriously doubt it's the latter.
Again, this is just the perception; maybe VY has bat-like hearing and eagle-eyed vision. Or maybe Heimerdinger has simple chronic halitosis. It could be anything, really. Which means, of course, it might also be that Young is just disinterested in the whole process since it has very little to do with him.

Fair enough, I suppose; losing your job to a thought-to-be washed-up dude can't do much for the confidence, but here's the thing: what if, God forbid, Collins gets injured. Young is, as they say, a play away. And it sounds like he'll be wholly unprepared for that eventuality. Which makes me think that head coach Jeff Fisher would seriously consider Chris Simms in such a situation.

On the upside, as long as Matt Leinart is in the league, Young can't be the biggest quarterback bust from the 2006 draft class.

In case you're wondering: no, it's not the first time VY has been accused of sideline indifference.
